What Fish Really Are Impossible To Kill!

I would also have to say that kribs can be very tough. I posted a while ago about my tank having water issues, and the ammonia was 7, the ph was a 9 and a half, the nirites were at 4, and the nitrates were at 300. He lived through that and did fine for a while, but i guess all that put a toll on his little body and he died about 1 week and a half later after everything in the water was taken care of.

I hope you didn't eat that dog fish! I have caught them occasionaly but never had the guts to eat one! Don T.

Your statement

"Id say the winner was the climbing perch, Anabas testudineus. Having the labyrinth organ, it can breath atmospheric air when O2 levels in the water become too low for it"

I disagree with this, I have multiple spotted leapord gouramis, a type of climbing perch from africa. They are highly agressive towards each other and while hardy, they sometimes kill each other and will kill themselves by attacking images in aqaurium glass.

Spotted climbing perch are quite different from climbing perch. Whilst Spotted c.p. (Ctenpoma acutirostre) can be agressive, i have found c.p. to be peaceful and shy, just fighting amonst themselves on occation. Also, c.p. were, with goldfish and paradise fish, one of the first fish to be kept in aquaria, so like the other two, they must be very hardy.
So on that, I would like to put climbing perch, paradise fish and goldfish on the final Imposible To Kill list.

Piranhas by far are the hardiest fish there are.

I've seen some with their innards literally hanging out and half their body gone but fully recover in 3 or 4 weeks.

I've seen another that had his stomach opened up from a bite from another piranha and whenever he ate, most of the food would pass back out of his body from his open stomach and into the water.

Both of these piranhas healed up and lived many many many years after that.

There are many other stories of the healing properties of piranhas and how they endure pain and suffering to heal and live. No other fish has the healing properties of piranhas. Not even close.

Very true, piranhas are very hard to kill. I guess they should go on the final list aswell.

Desert Goby, Chlamydogobius eremius

Desert gobies can tolerate temperatures ranging from 41 to 104 degrees Farenheit, they can live in pure freshwater up to a salinity as high as 60 ppt thats TWICE marine salinity. They have been found in oxygen concentrations as low as 0.8 mg/l. Also can tolerate a PH between 6 and 9!

surley no other fish can boast things like these!

Good point and well backed up with evidence. Trouble is, where would you buy one from? I think they should go on the list too.

Keep the arguments coming!

No one heard me lol.Platydorus costatus-raphael catfish.Oldest fish i have, lived through my first ever tank and did not every catch one disease. Was with my texas cichlid and lasted for 2 weeks until i decided his fins were ripped enough  So hardy!More then common plecos ime

Maybe plecos and severums? After all I put mine through... they still thrive. I've always had severums and they're very resilient.

I'd say platies. A randy little fish and a hardly little fish make for...
tank overlords!

No way can platies go on the list! After so many generations of inbreeding they have become weak and the genetics unstable. If you need a reason why, just look at my friend's tank. 20+ platies all originating from 4 siblings. Crippled and inbread the lot of them.

How bloody annoying! Very jelous of your fish.
It seems like quite a lot of people think Common plecs should go on; what other fish could put up with so many being kept in totally unsuitable tanks?

Golden severums arn't that hardy. Can catch illness's just as easy as other fish. :shout: A definate no to go on the list imo.

I would also say kribs certainly do appear to be very tough. Never kept them, but i watched a nature documentory on kribs living in the wild in their natural habitats and i was suprised at how tough their lifestyle was, having to survive in muddy hot and stagnent pools during dry seasons where there is little to eat apart from the corpses of other fish, to dodging huge predatory catfish and all manner of other predators during the wet seasons etc. They have to survive in ever changing (and often extreme) environments in the wild which force them to live through all manner of challenges which many other fish would simply not survive.

Yup, kribs arn't tough.Just a standard cichlid. When stressed there jaws can lock with kills them.Happend to mine.
