Are they rare? I use to have one, but I can't find them in ANY of my six local pet stores.

my dad recently got a pair of normal paradise fish for his tank first time we seen in a pet store even glass cats seem fairly new to our area but depends or ur area i guess someplaces get em more readily than others

Paradise fish (Macropodus opercularis) are beautiful labyrinth fish that can tolerate a wide range of temperatures and tank conditions. They are sometimes heralded as the 'original' home aquarium fish. They are reasonably easy to breed.

Unfortunately, they can be extremely aggressive, both to their species and other antabadoids (gouramis etc) and as such they need to be paired off well. Keeping them - even at a young age - in the kind of tanks LFS do is a recipe for disaster. Hence why you may not see them at most LFS. However, most will be able to source them if you want some, so ask.
In addition, some LFS treat them as cold or cool water fish (they can tolerate temps as low as 16-18 Celsius) and so they may be kept with the goldfish and the like.

If you do get some, I would suggest 2 females for every male. We have a breeding pair, but have been very lucky in that neither have displayed much aggression. Be careful of their tank mates too, to ensure there is no excessive aggression, and that there is a mutually agreeable temp.
