What fish do you think is underrated?

Underrated red eye tetras. When you reply took at the. They are so pretty. Also very fun to watch and that face cracks me up.

The bn pleco and common both fun fish that get over looked.

Now someone went off on bettas I love those fish and will always. but you can think what you want because I personaly find oscars Overrated but that's just me. I can see why people love them but they are not my cup of tea.

Underrated: Yoyo loaches (I know they're usually pretty high on newbie lists, but man, they're seriously great fish! Not much color, unlike other loaches, but the personality and action! I'm fascinated by my guys, especially the biggest bruiser, probably a female (I've taken to calling her Marge, lol))

Overrated: Ottos. They're cute when in groups, but even then, they still don't do too much.

Overrated: Neon bloomin Tetras! Rams, Mollies, Platies, Guppies and Danios! Bane of my life... desperate to import some nice exciting fish but all people want to buy is boring bloomin livebearers and common tetras, nothing unusual or exciting.

Underrated: Some funky halfbeak species, Empire Gudgeon! Licorice Gouramis, Corys! Taenicara Candidi, Apistogrammas, Gobies like Stiphodon Elegans! Threadfinned Cichlid (Acarychthys Hecklii), Chocolate Cichlids! Blue Acaras, Spiny Eels, Tiger fish, Arrowanas, Severums, Uarus, Chela Dadyburjori (Orange Finned Hatchet), Chocolate Gouramis, Endlers, Boraras Merah (Phoenix Rasbora) and loads more!

I agree it comes down to personal likes. Just like with dogs or any thing. Even cars what one person loves another might not.

I think my thing with oscars goes back to the 2 I took care of at a vets I worked at. These fish were just like little 8" trash eaters. They also beat up a JD. They were fun to feed and did grow on me a bit. But they were kept in a 55 gal tank and all they did was sit there and wait for food they were not active. I think it was due to the tank size. I have mixed feeling about them. Like I said I understand why so many love them they are just not for me.

Underrated- I think tiger barbs get a bad rap because people don't keep them properly. They are definately an awesome fish when kept in the right conditions

100% agreement here, my tigers are great fish with loads or personalty & very active.

I'll also shout up for Panda corries, mine go nuts from about 8.00pm every night.

Rate fish how you will it's all good, no such thing as overrating! THEY'RE ALL GREAT, underrating for that matter is a different story, and my, bettas are so underrated.....

Underrated- Bottom feeders/Algae eaters other than cories and plecos (ex-Farlowellas, Dojo Loaches, etc). Also killifish and cherry barbs.

Overrated- Not sure...

silverdollars- skittish, extremely dull, and can be aggressive in a community tank.
goldfish- tons of waste and very boring.
bettas- i love em but they're too incompatible with other fish.

SERIOUSLY overrated - most catfish. I love them, bigtime, I think they're fantastic, but people gotta stop thinking that getting a catfish will stop them ever having to do any maintenance 'cause the catfish cleans the tank for you'. That's all I mean by overrated, they're great fish!

Underrated: Most of the fish that are unattractive when stressed (ie in dealers tanks) but look AMAZING when settled and well fed.
Ember tetras. Pygmy rainbows (Pseudomugil, Iriatherina, Telmatherina etc.) Pygmy corys!!! Nobody knows how cute those little gems are for some reason.
Unusual livebearers. People are so stuck on bog standard platy, guppy, swordtail, molly. They totally forget all the other livebeaers out there.
I reckon bettas are underrated personally. EVERYBODY thinks they're boring... when you keep them in decent tanks, funnily enough, they aren't.
But yeah. ESPECIALLY ember tetras.
