What Fish Can I Get For A 180 Gal.brackish Tank?

Hi
I have 3 culombian sharks that will definetly be moved to this tank(the demensions are 6ft by 2ft by 2ft). The sharks are about 7 inches long at present. I would also like to move my 2 archers to this tank and get maybe another 2 or 3. And I have 2 ruby scats that will be moved to this tank. These fish have lived together with no problems for bit more then a year. I was wondering what other fish i an get. I was wondering if banded laporinis (spelling?) can be converterd to live in brackish condisoins along with the other fish i mentioned. I would like a few more "centerpeice" fish (Puffers?) and about 10 small ( 4 or 5 inches) schooling fish I have heard a bit about monos but iv heard they get to be about 10 inches. Are there any speices of monos or other fish that fit these requierments? Any recomendations or comments are welcome!

The sharks and the scats will require sg1.012- full marine as adults. IMO the best tankmates that require the same water conditions would be a school of monos. I was looking in Neal's book and found the following:

As per the book "Brackish Water Fishes" Written by Neale Monks It says and I quote " An Ideal Aquarium would be 48" long and 24" deep This leaves a bit of room for some other comparably sized community fish such as a couple of scats or shark catfish."

I used the aquarium calculator and it came out to be 125 gallons. I am sure Neale will correct me if I am wrong!

Correct me if im wrong but wouldnt 4 feet long be a bit small for 3 active adult columbians would 6 feet be better and then I could get another pair of sharks and a bigger school of monos and maybe some other scats.
and If i leave the archers where they are will they be okay in a 75 gallon(4ft,15in,2ft)with the sg 1.018?

The 75 with the archers IMO would be fine, I think I would lower the sg a little bring it back to 1.012

yes that was another qustion i had about the sg for the 75 gallon so thanks for ansrewing that to

I think that if it were just a school of six mono and 3 scat or 2 columbians that the 4X2X2 would be fine but for 3 scat 3 sharks and 6 monos i would definately go with the 6X2X2.

I think with the archers too i would bring the sg down a little more now that i think about it 1.008-1,010 would be better!

yeah right now the sg for the 75 is 1.014 so ill just bring it down a bit over the course of the next month after i move the scats and the sharks to the 180 and i think with that ill start it at 1.014 (thats what the 75 is that there moving out of ) and then once the sharks hit 10 or 11 inches ill start transisitioning the tank to full marine or as close as the monos can handle, which i assume is at least pretty close.

Monos, Columbians (sharks), and scats can all go full marine...no worries about that!!!

Monos, Columbians (sharks), and scats can all go full marine...no worries about that!!!

thanks scott, I have decided that i will get a 155 gallon bowfront 6 ft by2 ft at widest point and 2 ft high for the reson that it will be easyer to decorate the sides with plants ( eventually coral) and that will still leave as much room as they would have had before in the middle. Also my lfs got a 72 gallon bowfront for rainblowfish and it looks really cool and the visoin looking at it was graet.

Just to let you know, At your current sg of 1.014 the only plants you will be keeping are plastic ones...ha ha ha That sounds good. Grab Neale's book and read it. I just recently read it and it was very informative!!! Make sure you post pics when you get it up and running!!!

oh yeah i jsut ordered the book off of amazon.com and it should be here soon and sont worry i knew about the fake plants and i will most def get pics of the tank but it might be a bit till i get the money (maybe a month or two)

By the way just last night one accomplished eating a whole inch in diameter algea disk which is realy something to see. anyways also the 3 scats and 6 monos and what type of monos would you recomend, would sabeas(i have no idea how to spell that) work or are there any smaller types? and are there any kind of alge eaters

Both types have the ability to get to be the same size. There is a smaller version, however it is rarely traded, and even at the young age that most are sold almost imposssible to tell. The only easily attainable algae eater for brackish water are Olive Nerite Snails. I have 10 full grown ones in my tank right now and a few little ones. I plan to only keep 10 in my tank and will be looking to rehome any new additions as soon as they are big enough to ship...

these snails will be fine with the catfish right?
