Hi,

I recently switch from keeping fresh water puffers to betta. So my tank is fully cycled. I have 10 gal tank with a tank divider(Penn Plax divider bought from petsmart) and keeping two betta fishes at the moment. I have a power filter and the water current seems too strong for one side of the divider and no water movement at all for the other side. So I am thinking about switching the filter to undergravel filter, but have no experience with the UG filter. I also read some posts suggesting sponge filters.

So please give me some suggestions on what to do so that the current won't be too strong and proper water flow on both side of the divider. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is always the option of two small filters, one on each side. Whisper filters seem gentle enough for bettas, have an adjustable current, and have cheap cartridges. The one complaint I've read about (and experienced myself) is bettas jumping up into the output and being wounded. Many people use them without incident, however.

Guys,
Thanks for replying my post. Using two small nano filters on each side did cross my mind. But in the future, i might want to add in one more divider to keep three in the tank, and not really want to buy extra filter(being cheap, i guess), so i was hoping that may be undergravel filter might solve the problem. So you guys don't think UG filter is the answer? Also how does sponge filter works? Will it allow the whole tank (both sides of divider) to have gentle water flow?

Cracker, you mention you don't use any filter, wouldn't it affect the bio load of the tank since there is not enough oxygen for the bacteria.

Thanks again.
