Hi all,

I recently purchased a betta. I have a EHEIM Aquaball internal sponge filter, but the betta really doesn't seem happy with this on. I suppose the current is to strong. When I turn it off the betta is happy and swims everywhere and oppsed to staying in the corner.

The problem with this is that I got other fish in there aswell including a mini catfish, do they require the filter to be on?

Also, and as weird as this may sound, I fed my betta a prawn and he loved it! is this ok for them?

Sorry for my ignorance but im learning day by day.

Thanx in advance

hook your filter to a gang valve it will allow you to adjust the air flow to a very low setting

A gang valve can be purchased at any LFS and most department stores that carry fish. The best way I can describe it is that it is like a water faucet for air. The air tube from the pump is connected to the gang valve, there is a little control knob on the valve that allows you to adjust the air flow. Then another air tube goes from the gang valve into the tank, with a decreased air flow that causes less current. That's probably clear as mud, but I hope it helps a little.
