i might setup another betta tank with a 12*10*10 inch tank i can make my own filter system out of glass which will sit above the tank.

water will be taken up to the filter with a power head and sprayed over the media (like some of the aquaone internals)

heres a drawing

grey is spray bar
blue is pre-filter
black is sintered glass

do you think it would work?

seems like it would work but i dont see why you wouldnt just get a small filter

gravity pulls it back in through a piece of pre-drilled acrylic to go on the bottom

yip that sounds ok
BUT you will need some thing like a under filter plate under the media so the water can run through,the back to the tank

so is the filter tank all glass or 4sides glass and the bottom acrylic ?

4 sides glass and the bottom acrylic, im building the filter into the top of the tank i am making so its all one unit

so the acrylic has got holes in to return the water to the tank(thats fine)but you still need to keep the media off the acrylic so that the water can run freely through the media(or the parts of the media thats toughting the acrylic will not filter)

im using sintered glass media which will sit on the acrylic which is drilled the water will easily flow through the sintered glass so there shouldnt be any problems if it is touching

yes that sounds fine or you could use ceramic noodels
