EDIT: Oh i also like clown gobys

well, starting with SW and a 20gal (most would consider that nano) is not usually reccomended to start with. it CAN be done, but is difficult. To do it properly you'd need to love researching the subject online and have infinite reserves of parience. I also doubt that you can do it for that cheap, but maybe...

Hi Alex,

Just like you i am also planning to keep a sw tank. I am still reasearching and learning and from what i have learned so far a 20 gallon would be considered a nano tank (30 gallon or less.)
Anything that is nano is not reccomended for the beginner to SW. Therefore i would not reccomend it. However, if you are insitant to get SW in the 20 gallon i would recommend going to the nano section and reading some of the diaries. Then you can ask your questions and you will get great help there. Yes you could keep clownfish and shrimps in there, and goby's. Not to sure about the clown goby though.
SW tanks are expensive and you might need to increase your budget unless you plan to DIY for alot of the things. If you want corals just a good light (like CP) will cost $100-$200. LR will cost about $2-2.50 per 1 lb. So in a 20 gallon you would need about 20 lbs making it $40-50 right there. Then the extra stuff like the salt the RO unit, the heater, the sump, the hydrometer/refractometer, the sand and alot of other stuff. However if you plan for FOWLR then you might be able to do it in your budget if you plan to do alot of DIY.
I hope this could help. I'm not trying to be discouraging, but if you get a bigger tank then it will be much easier, but its always possible in a 20 gallon.

Good Luck

LR is more than that. i paid 5 bucks a pound for fiji LR. anyway i have a 10 gal and i lost track on how much i spent a while back. last i checked i was near the 700 dollar mark and i still need to upgrade my lighting so i can start getting corals.
