I fear you may soon judging by your stocking levels :/

I checked out your profile because your avatar looked interesting.

Correct me if I'm wrong -

You have a TropiQuarium 88 - 34 US Gallon (130 litre)
Containing -

16 Cardinal Tetra
8 Neon Tetra
3 Corydorus
3 Clown Loaches
3 Sucking Loaches
2 Sail Fin Plecs
2 Golden Angels
1 Ancistrus
1 Discus (Used to be 5, but, he killed the other 4!!)
1 Red Tailed Shark (He's stopped the discus bullying the other fish)

I realise you may be new to this hobby but you need to know a few basics i.e. stocking levels - a tank of your size will safely house a maximum of 62" fish assuming your tank is mature (+6 months), you have good filtration and carry out regular maintenance i.e. 25% weekly water changes. When buying fish you should bear in mind their fully grown adult size. I have roughly calculated that your current stocking level is 120 inches when your fish are near fully grown (I have actually been quite conservative). Needless to say you are way overstocked. Keeping 5 Discus is asking for trouble in that size tank. Clown Loaches can grow up to 12". Sailfin Plecs - up to 18" - I could go on but hopefully you get the message.

Please do more research before buying and adding fish to your tank. You may be ok at the moment because they are juveniles, but they will grow and cause problems for you in the future. Post any questions you may have in the Beginners Section.

I was going to PM this post but I feel that the content may be useful to other new fishkeepers. Note to more experienced members - no flaming please.

EDIT: Not flaming just a question,

Regarding above posts, first says mike hasnt had to go through it yet, but reading gf225s post says 5 discus become 1.... so what did mike do with these 4 bodies?? Leave them in there??? :S

I feed my deads to my other fish, unless its one of me favs then it goes in the bin.
Big fish go in freezer and cut up once frozzen for the piranhas

Hi, Thanks for all that information. I know I am well over stocked, but it wasn't through choice! I inherited the tank off a friend who was moving house. I already had the neons, ancistrus and corydorus. The tank came with the other fish. I have not, nor intend to add any more fish. I do about a 30% water change every week and my fish seem happy enough. I realise they do grow, especially the clowns and sailfins. I'm sure by then I'll have a much bigger tank.
Mike

Ps.
The Discus died before I inherited the tank!!

I usually throw mine in the trash can or feed it to my bigger fish.

Mike, not to flame or get you mad, but 30% a week may not be enough seein as your extremely over stocked, and the pleco and other fish create huge amounts of waste for fish... 30% may not be good enough, plus sooner or later with just 30% your discus, the most sensative of urs, is going to get very stressed and sick, possiabley die.

I would suggest taking alot of them to your LFS.

HTH

Josh

Mike190762, doesn't some lps take all of your fish if you were moving and had to take everything including the water out of the tank and hold them until you got the tank running again and ready for fish? If some do why don't you see if your lps will hold them until you can get a bigger tank or a tank of similar size or smaller and spilt the group of fish up.

I think we have beaten this subject to the ground and buried it 50ft into the ground. I think everyone has a very clear idea that alot of people flush their fish or bury it in the graden or in a flower pot. So not to be rude but enough is enough.

Durb, you say this as if this thread is seriosly bothering or offending you or something. If nobody is fighting about anything and it is a peaceful thread, then why do you need to object and get rude.... Just stop reading the thread if it's bothering you.

Anyhow, I've only had to deal with 2 fishy deaths (one very old betta, and one that seemed to not make it through shipping great and died a day after arrival) and another fish of my moms that she didn't know what to do with, so I took care of the deed for her. They get scooped it, wrapped in a paper towel, which I put in a small zip-lock and try my best to get the air out, seal it up, and toss it in the bin. :)I don't flush fish for 1. I'm afraid of getting flamed and 2. Our toilet SUCKS and frequently clogs and kicks things back up.

look im asking this because its just the one thing ALL of us are going to do sometime so if you dont like this topic dont read it :dunno:

That told me lol  goes to show there can be logical and genuine answers.
Well done Mike

Hi,
Great ideas for the poor fish that have passed to fishy heaven. Put them in the garden. I wonder if my cat will dig them out. Husband, he usually flushes them or just puts them in the garbage.

Great idea for the plants using the old fish water. We have this hose that goes out the window and we syphon out the old water. No wonder the plant by that window is doing so great.

I always bury mine in the flowerbed. To me they are like my family and I just couldn't bring myself to flush them down the pot, to me it seems degrading. (no offense to anyone that flushes, this is just my opinion on -my- fish. I have no emotional attachment to yours ^_~ lol) So it's into the herb garden for my poor fishy babies...must say that the plants are disturbingly happy...o_O I also dump out the tank water in the garden, better than any 'miracle grow' I've ever had. Each grave gets a rock over it to a ) Prevent critters from digging them up and b ) prevent me from digging them up when putting in mew plants/having a new feuneral.

I don't know -what- I do if I dug up a corpse when putting in daffodils or something. o_o

Meh I just throw mine out in the yard. They get decomposed
