What Do I Need To Start Up?

Actually their metabolism is linked to their tank temperature so if you have higher temperatures you have a shorter life span for your shrimp but the juvies grow more rapidly and as your going to sell some of them on a higher temp of around 26C would be better. At those temps you will also need some live plants to keep the oxygen levels high. They are not cold water they are sub tropical like the majority of shrimp they can be kept as low as 10C or as high as 30C but you elongate their lives and slow their movements at colder temperatures and its like giving them caffeine when at higher temps. The diurnal temp fluctuation in the tank if no heater is provided would cause big problems for these shrimp. I am not sure about your house but mine gets cold around 1 am as there is no heating and relatively boiling at 1pm.

Something like this would be good planting for them

well i have now bought a filter, the fluval 1+ and an elite 25w heater. both are working fine, put them in there yesterday aswell as 2x corkscrew vallis, 1x hygo..... and 2x small amazonswords. i will be keeping hte temp at about 24 degrees so that should be ok.

Just suddenly remembered, when I was looking at getting some of these shrimp I asked around at some fish stores and a few of the maiden heads stock them regularly and some can order in. It's worth asking. :)

what size filter?
what size heater
what low light plants?

for a 20L shrimp tank. i want it too be well planted and i only want these shrimp in there. i was thinking moss balls, normall moss, anubais, corkscrew valls, any other plants that will be good for a low light tank?

Theres a great article on planted nano tanks in this months practical fish keeping, check it out.

The red plant your referring to is a Ludwigia Natans Also known as Creeping Ludwigia
Its easy to care for,undemanding.. i'v found that if you allow the plant to grow up through the surface, the leaves become more compact and spread across the surface.
If you prune it, theplant becomes bushier.
Temp range- 20-30C
Preferred Ph- 6-7
Lighting- 50-75w

hope that helped :D
