What Do I Ned For Dwarfs?

Hi Stu.
I would go for 2-3 otos as they will help to keep the algae down.
What lfs do you use?
I'm in Paignton and haven't seen Dwarf Puffers anywhere lately.

If you are trying to sex DP's then the males have a set of wrinkles behind their eyes which females dont get. This only appears once they mature though...so if you can find a shop that has some slightly more mature specimins your best option is 1 male with 2or3 females.

deffo go for ottos with dwarf puffers

not even the slightest hint of agression from the puffers, but make sure you add the ottos a few at a time, rather than just a large bunch of them all at once, incase the puffers think they have just been given an "if you can eat this you get your desert for free"

amano shrimp as long as they are big enough is also a good tankmate, but i dont think ive heard an experienced dwarf puffer keeper(im not one, only had mine a few months) say that any other fish is compatible

but if you do get shrimp, dont worry about not seeing them for 96% of the time

they ARE alive

Hi there, they have dwarf puffers in Aquator in Torquay, best lfs around by a long shot!!
They always have some in, and usually some bigger ones too

hmmm I think I shall go for maybe 3 dp's then, gives em more room then anyway, any suggestions on tank mates?

I have 3 dp's, 7 ottos and 6 kuli loaches. They are all fine together now, but when i first put the otto's & kuli's in the tank, the dp's thought it was great to nip their fins. I don't think it was in a nasty way.. i see it more like a baby who needs to 'eat' everything to figure out what it is.

I did try some cheap feeder shrimps as a trial (as i quite fancied an amano) but everyday i came home from work there was another one dead. I think my female dp had a bit of a taste for them!! Hence, no amano!

Hi Stu,
Your right Aquator is very good. Didn't realise they had DP's in at the mo though. Didn't see any last time I looked. Now I am going to have to go in there after work and look again :hyper:

Hi Stu,

I currently have 3 dps and one bristlenose Plec in a 60 litre tank. I have it heavily planted and with lots of Mopani wood. They were too young to sex when I got them but can recognise them as one male and two females. They have been fine with the plec (which tends to keep out of their way anyway) and they love whizzing in and around the plants and wood. Never seen any agression towards each other as yet.

Good luck they are little characters and will keep you very entertained!

Pity you don't live nearby as I am looking for a new home for them as I just don't have the space for three tanks in a small apartment. They will be missed!

So are you miles away from Devon then? because id be happy to take them off you?

Oh smudger, I really really hope aquator have them in now otherwiseyour gonna have a wasted journey lol, they had some in when I was there though im sure of it

I'm in Bristol...I'm sure there must be a lfs with some in nearer than me!
