Hi I have a couple of fish who look poorly. They don't have fungus or fin rot, but one Platy looks like it's either giving birth or it's intestines are coming out from underneath. Also I have a Albino cory cat and underneath looks very sore

I checked my water and quickly my water has a high Nitrite level (0.5mg/l), I did a 70% water change and the level is still high....

This tank is only 1 week old and I moved the fish from my other tank which was fine.

Not sure what to do now

If the intestines are coming out not much you can do it happens with livebearers, maybe if its suffering it might be best to put the fish down, as for the red sore probably due to high nitrites keep doing water changes, corys shouldn't of been added to the tank while it had cycled.

Hi, you say it happens with livebearers, what are livebearers? And why does it happen?

Livebearers are platys, guppys, mollys and swordtails, defects from in breeding.

Do you have any other tanks you could put the corys in, if not you will have to carry on with water changes.

Not anymore, would small daily water changes be a good idea or once every other day?

It will take your tank longer to cycle, it sounds like the cycle has all ready took it's toll on the cory, so you will have to carry on with water changes, but you might have to be prepared that you might lose the corys due to the cycling.

That's fine, how often would you do a water change? it's a 180L tank or 45 Gallons.

Keep testing water and keep a close eye on the fish as they tell you when they are not coping, I would do small daily water changes for now with the cory having a red sore, it is a red sore and not a red patch on the belly, as septicemia can be caused through poor water quality.
