I had an uncle in Cartonville, who bred fish in his garage and eventually (from these beginnings) he started a pet shop in Oberholzer, so, he could provide me with a setup at cost price..... and that is where it all started for me.... How did you get into the hobby???

Dad got me a tank for free from work and it went from that really. Didn't think 12 months on I would be hooked and planning my 4th tank setup.
I've learned so much from studying my own fish, this forum and other fishkeepers. I now work involving fish and love every minute of it.

for me i had a friend with a large tank over 6ft with red belly pranahas in,always liked but never got me into it until one day he gave me a beer and told me to watch it which i did and was hooked.i brought a 30 lt tank which i had for 2 years all ok with no problems until this year i changed to a 120 lt tank which i seam to of had endless troubles.

My friend's Dad had some when I was about 12 and we both got into them from him. I just had a small 1 foot tank then (and various others at different points including Betta and goldfish) which looking back must have been very overstocked (had Guppies, Neons and a Peppered Cory) and full of nasties (you don't need to do water changes when you have a filter don't you know ;)).

Then being a kid, the novelty wore off and I cared more about clothes and make-up. Then even when I grew up I could never afford it on barmaid's wages but last year I got a "proper" job and decided I fancied having a tank again. I never went off them though, I'd always be like "WOW YOU'VE GOT FISH" if I ever saw some in someone's house.

My parents have coldwater fish in a lovely big tank, then my Bro started with his Tropical fish and I kinda followed suit. I love all animals and have always liked watching the different species of fish in other peoples tanks.

I decided almost 2 years ago to begin researching about keeping fish myself and Bob`s your uncle, I now have a lovely tank of Tropical fish that I sit and watch for ages :D :D

It was Celebes Rainbowfish which inspired me. I loved them as soon as I saw them. I quickly knew I'd have to change to a large tropical tank if I was to have them

i always liked fish my gran had a garden pond where i kept my goldfish i won at a fair in. so i would always spend time at my grans i rember summers spent in the pond up to my knees catching fish to drain the pond to give in a good clean. goldfish spent some time in the bath while we cleaned it. so when my goldfish was stolen out my grans pond by kids 15 years later.i was very upset.(as we know fair won gold fish dont have the best lives won for a couple of quid at a fair and end up dying in a bowl) and my had lived for over 15 years. so i decided to get a tank but read that goldfish dont do well in tanks. so i looked into tropical and marine. marine looked to comp to start out with so i decided on tropical and set up my first tank. and a year and a half later i have upgraded my community tank 4 times and also now have a shrimp tank and another tank with angles in. i am still looking at one day changing to marines but that day hasnt come yet but i am sure one day it will

oh god i rabbit on a bit sorry guys

when i was a little kid , i saw a fish tank , and was totally smitten , i just had to have1, so ibought 1 .......................................when i was 33  and as soon as i did i thought , god why have i took so long to do this? so i soon got obsessed and ordered the biggest upgrade that i could fit at the time and started working my way thru new world cichlids like a dose of salts , almost asif i was making up for lost time

I was given goldfish in a bowl when I was younger, but of course because they were in a tiny bowel with no filtration they died :( But it got me interested in fish so for my 16th birthday I got a 50L tank and I went tropical because there was a better choice of fish. That was it, I was hooked :D

I had a 10l tank way overstocked..... then brought a 60l tank went well for a while... then joined this forum... then realised i NEEDED a bigger tank (350l) then found the CA/SA Cichlid section got a bigger tank... now i ned a bigger house!!!

I won a goldfish at a fair years ago, after that it grew to 6 inches long and ended up in a friends pond, then having a spare tank for years decided to make it tropical after seeing all the amazing fish online...

My favourites being the corys :)
