Just had a look at the bulb and it is fluorescent (a long thin strip) and it says 6W 10000K. Any good?

In my experience ideally you want 2 watts per gallon for a small planted tank.

The tank is about 5g. So maybe a little more than 1WPG. The java fern and the crypt would probably be alright. I'm not a fan of huge amounts of light. The sword might be sketchy and both the crypt and the sword would benefit from rootabs inserted into the substrate. They don't look bad right now, though. How long has the tank been setup?

Yes, just over 1wpg. It's only been set up 3 weeks. Can you recommend a brand of root tabs? Are they better than the liquid fertiliser I've been using?

It's not that rootabs are better or worse, but what they do is focus the nutrients in a place where cryptocorynes and amazons primarily consume them. While they do absorb some nutrients from the leaves, the mostly absorb it through the roots. Seachem makes a good rootab. I use them.

I'd try the rootabs first before you consider upgrading your lighting.
