Do you not realize his fins are rotting away? And don't use the excuse he's a crowntail, because there's a BIG differnece between a CT and fin rot. The latter is obviously what your fish has. It's most likely from ammonia burn being in such a small glass. That glass would have to be changed at LEAST two to three times a day for him to be ok in that small amount of water. Bettas can live in small bodies of water, but they do not THRIVE. If you can't properly care for a fish, DON"T HAVE THEM. And if you're in college, someone's paying the bills so either borrow $10 and get a bigger tank for them or give them to someone who will care for them properly.

ok guys lets not hurl abuse! all that does is annoy people and they leave the forum and dont get the advice they need.

now.. like eveyone has already said.. therse fish are in containers that are wwwaaayyyyy to small for them to live comfortabley. you say they are happy.. how do you know this? coz they are alive and move and flare? that wont nesseasarily mena they are happy. like everyone had said, a minimum of one gallon is needed and even that will require a regular clean, mabey once every few days. there are many different ways to achive this, if you still want something a bit defferent or arty, the a large vase (i used one once and it looked superb!), a glass or plastic food/sugar container, a sweet jar, a large coffe jar, a giant beer glass mabey! hell even one of the 3 litre coke bottles with the top taken off would do. but a wine glass or even a desert glass is no good. ive heard of people keeping fish in giant brandy glasses, but these were 1 gallon and i think it was paradise fish, not betta.
anyway hope you find some more suitable containers, but you can see by the state of your older fishes fins, that the water quality deteriorated quickly in such small spaces.

i'm taking a trip to the store... to get something larger for both of my bettas.... i had the smaller bowls to contain them until i could go back out and get something larger... the only problem is trying to find something nice that isnt too expensive and made out of glass.... and has a enough room...

thanks for the advice ppl :p

question: at the present moment i'm just feeding my betta's those floating pellets.... what else can i feed them to give them variety in their diets?
