What Co2 System

Ive just been thinking - would I be able to fit a regulator valve to a soda stream (fizzy drink maker) co2 bottle, if so I could just exchange them at asda down the road for a few quid when it runs out ?

However ive got a feeling they probably dont have a standard fitting on the top of the bottle, maybe i could get and adapter...

Anyone got any experience with this ?

Ive even got a feeling my dad has an old soda stream in the garage he dosent use ...

Failing all this im going to ask the landlord at the boozer if he know where I could get a bottle from :D

Steve.

is the CO2 that's already in the fire extinguisher ok to use or would I have to emtpy it and fill it up with CO2 from my local source?

Here is a page that will show you how to build a great Co2 injector in about 20 minutes!
That's a DIY system, perfectly OK on smaller tanks, but not much use on a large tank if you want to
get decent levels of CO2 dissolved in the water.

Yes the CO2 in an extinguisher is fine.
But remember you dont have a screw valve to open/close the extinguisher/tank. What you'd need to do is remove the horn, attach the regulator to the thread. Then you squeeze the handles together to open the extinguisher and you need a way of holding the handles together (strong tape or a clamp etc).

I'll try to find a pic of one if I can and post it.

Another option is to use disposable pressurised system ( D&D CO2 ). The bottles are easy to find and order on the net. And in the future you could always get a 'thread coverter' to use refillable tanks with the same regulator.
The only question is how long would a 600g disposablbe bottle last on your tank !

Random Thoughts:
1. Funny how plastic disposable bottles can be sent in the post, but metal tanks can't !
You'd thing the plastic ones would be more prone to damage.

2. Why doesnt somebody develop a r 'Thread coverter' to allow regulators (jbl / aquamedic etc) to go from refillable tanks to disposable bottles !

Mr G's thought for the day ;)

1) you make a good point! who the hell knows!

2) you can go from disposable to refillable, I guess there must be something to go the other way!!!!
