Im sure that someone out there can tell me what species this fish is. Maybe there is even someboby that can tell me why he wont eat the pellits i feed him. Yet he will skarf up the entire cube of blood worms. :look: ThanksUnknown Cichlid

whats the difference? they look so similar I cant tell

Hi there,

Given the white tip to the dorsal, I would go with Nimbochromis venustus.

Here's a link with more information (more pictures are available from the drop down box under the main image) > Nimbochromis venustus

Regards

Andrew

Its definately a Venustus. Livingstoni are a lighter colour with more defined markings.

It is Venustus and a poorly/unhealthy one at that!!

His stomach is sunken and his eyes are cloudy.

Here is a pic of one of mine: -

see the rounded belly and the pure black eye. This is how the one in your picture should look.

I agree, Venustus. Don`t know why it wont accept pellets though, mine are complete dustbins and will eat anything. They get big by the way, 10" plus!!!

Chill.

Well thanks alot with the identity problem. I guess ill just have to feed him(or by the pics of the others "her") exclusive blood worms for now. TY

You see where the skull and eyes are too big for the body thats a sign of starvation throughout its life, this could be down to poor care or even just because its the runt of the litter so to speak. The fish is seriously emaciated. If you were sold it in that condition then you should really debate whether or not to shop there agqain.

By the way it is definitely Nimbochromis Venustus but it will never be a healthy specimen.
