They need sand?! The guy i bought them off didnt say that!!

I have tried two different filters today now... The first one was an interpret mini filter and air pump thing and was too powerful. I have just tried a fluval 1, supposedly the weakest the lps stock - Arnie was thrown all over the place :( I dont know what to do!!! I put one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...bayphotohosting in for the time being (sorry, ebay!!lol wasn't sure where else to find it!!!) Im guessing thats not going to be ok for long!! Kayley - what filter do you have now?! Getting a bit annoyed now...lol Surely there's a filter somewhere with a really weak flow?!?!

corys dont neec sand, they just like it better for there barbels, or barbells, the whisker things, lol.

Why not try a UGF? That should be fine. I think Ive seen pics of bettas with UGF's.

Also if you were to put more stuff in wouldnt overstock the tank?

lol i shall see about some sand then!

Would a UGF be ok in there then? Cos i saw loads of them at the LFS and they're cheaper! :D

The tank is 3.5 gals, so yeah it may get a bit crowded if i put more in. Im not planning on putting anything else in there at the moment anyway! :)

heya

like wrs said, sand is not essential, just a sort of added bonus...kinda like chocolate...people don't need it, but they enjoy it ;) You could always jsut add a flat dish of sand for tehm to dig in if they fee like it, as a lot of people find their cories are more active when they add sand.

but if you are going to use a UGF don't use sand, it won't work. :) You probably knew that already but I thought I'd best make sure. ;)

You could try putting a tall rock/plant/piece of wood in front of the filter outflow to make the current weaker, or directing it at the glass. That's what I did in my friend's betta tank. :)

they also are made by "red sea" along with the "azoo" brind. I hope that helps. I am sure some of our European friends may can help you locate one. I have found them from 6 bucks to 30 bucks depends on where you find them LOL

Hey,

Tried aiming the filter at the galss and it still didnt work - poor arnie looked like he was in the middle of a whirlpool!!lol Though the 'weakest filter' they had was for up to 10 gals... i shall have a good look on the internet! :)

Thanks for all the help! am searching for 'red sea filters' as we speak!!lol

er... probably... i have not seen one of those though! they cost much?! Sorry... i dont know much technical stuff - tend to just ask at the lfs! :D lol

im prob gonna try my undergravel filter because i can adjust the air pump so its better... im havin problms with my filter too

well i use an corner filter in my breeding tanks.

it's veyr cheap, the acutla filter is nothing more than a container with 2 openings. it's about $3.49 here in canada, and you put ur own filter media in there. YOu'll need an air pump for it to work though.

so you attach the airpump to one end, and the air going through it will cause a vaccum and draw water in through the filter media. So you're gonan have bubbles and water coming out of hte other end.

Anyways, it's a biological filter, which means that you shouldnt' rely on it to suck up all the solid pieces of stuff like a powe filter would, but i believe it lets benefical bacteira build up and let them take out the icky particles liek ammonia and things like that.

ti's good for breeding tanks becuase there is hardly any disturbance in the water, and the sponge is a good thing for the fry to pick on :shifty:

If you ahve an air pump you could give the corner filter a try..afterall what do you have to lose :D

What you may considedr doing, if you don't mind the noise, is to make a "catch" for the water.. let the water runn into your catch, and have it spill out the sides.. This should noticable weaken the current. (think of like you put a cup under your facet, and water runs out all sides of your cup. Which current is stronger? The one from the cup, or if your facet was straight on?)

Or, you can run a tube from your outtake and run it to the bottom of the tank, into the gravel... this should also serve to murder the current.. You'll have some spill over, but the current should be murdered...

Not sure how -well- it will work, but you could experiment with that. On a 3.5 I think thats the most you can do

OR you place a plant right under the filter. I do that in my 16.5 and it does wonders for breaking up the current.

Ok, i phoned the pet shop! They have a filter which is used for Goldfish bowls which may be ok! It comes with an air pump for £10.99! Its for tanks and bowls up to 5 gals. I shall try that and see how it works, if not i may be making a filter! :D lol I hope Arnie appreciates all of this effort im going to!!!
