I posted this in the Invertebrates section but didnt really help. I have a 5g UK tank and its got a chameleon shrimp in it and he ate his tankmates (one neon, 2 African Dwarf Frogs, one chameleon shrimp) and we managed to get the baby molly out. Can anyone sugest a more suitable tank mate for him? The pet shop said he would be fine with the above fish and wouldnt hurt them. stupid me for buying them on a whim.

I dont like bettas so they're out, don't like danios and I take it the tank is too small for them anyway. so any more suggestions anyone? what about a couple of small barbs? such as cherry barbs?

If it eats neons, I would think it will get to the cherry barbs as well...

5g really is too small for just about all species out there. I personally wouldn't put even neons in that sized tank...

I dont see why it would be too small for a few neons, I never keep so called "schooling" fish in groups of 6. usually 4's or less.

Bettas are ugly fish who dont get on with every other fish out there. plus they die.

It is definitely feasible - its just that 5g tank is even less stable than 10g tank, which isn't exactly that stable either. Larger the tank, easier it is to maintain.

The smallest I usually recomend are 15g long.

Having said that, I'm sure it is feasible to keep few neons in a 5.5g tank until their natural age expires.

Hmm...good point.

this shrimp was a bad buy!!! perhaps i should just get the betta... the water all seems to be fine and the parameters were fine last time i tested.

:grr: I'm sure we can name you plenty of other fish out there that bettas can live with.

Bettas are not ugly! But I won't debate.
They die? All fish die eventually, And even though you may not like them they are one of the few species you can keep in a 5g
