Hi i am new to this website and i enjoy surfing it. I have some questions.

Do anyone has a website to see which fish are compatibile with each other?
My second question is. I just found in a lfs algea wafers. He told me there is green and white ones which is better and y. I just told him to get me the white one. Is there any main difference between them? How many wafers should i feed my pleco? What can i have with my goldfish in the tank. I added a heater coz it is very cold and the pleco and goldfish are doing gr8. My tank is 29 gal what can i add to them. I have 4 goldfish and 1 pleco. They told me i can add gouramis and ....

there are many fish compatibility charts and calculators all over the internet, however they're shockingly un reliable. by all means take a look at them but don't take they're word as gospel..... you can always post your thoughts here and we'll tell you if the fish are compatible or not.

what temp are you keeping the tank at?

what sort of pleco is it?

unfortunately a 30g tank isn't big enough for goldfish, if properly cared for they can reach nearly a foot long and need a very large tank. you certainly shouldn't have 4 of them in a 30g, they may be fine for now but will eventuaslly become stunted and die from it

I think your comments are a bit harsh, who says your compatability is 'gospel'? you only have to read the threads in this forum to see that some fish mix with others in one tank and not in others.

i never said ours were, we're all human and make mistakes, i don't profess to know everything.

but if you post a stocking list you'll get several people replying with they're opinions, you can then make an educate choice from that selection of opinions rather than just relying on the person who created the website knowing everything.

I don't think Miss Wiggle is implying her compatability is "gospel". All she is saying is that the best bet is to ask members and with their experience they will be able to make suggestions.
I've been on websites that state certain fish are fine together when it's certainly not the case. I would much rather ask people on here who have the experience than trust my lfs or particular websites.

Goldfish are coldwater and plecs are tropical. You'll have to choose one or the other, and either way - if it's a common plec, or if you keep the goldfish, you're going to need a much bigger tank

Gouramis are nice, but I'd avoid dwarf gouramis unless you're very experienced, we've been keeping fish for a year now and not managed to keep one alive. Really really fragile fish.

It sounds as if your best bet would be to either upgrade for a much bigger tank, or return the fish you have and start again with ones suitable for your tank size

aren't there coldwater 'plecs' or rather coldwater fish that are commonly referred to as plecs.... hillstream loaches if i'm not mistaken? if it's those it's not gonna mind the coller temp, although we don't know what temp the tank is kept at.

but yeah you definately need to decide if you want to go coldwater or tropical as you can't just mix ans match both.

i always hear this about dwarf gourami's...... i have never had a single problem with them! I'm pretty careful with the stock when i by them, make sure they seem clean and are from a reputable source etc. but i've never had any issues with them at all.

So what your saying is that the people who wrote the websites havent gone through the same trials as people on the forum?

There are websites to look at for compatability but apparentlly you shouldn't look at them just ask the 'experts' on the forum.

three people have replied to the original post with three different websites so you must be able to gleen some decent info from them

That's not the case at all. There are some very good websites but not all of them have the required information. I've brought two books by the same author and even they contradict one another!
It's a case of checking websites and doing research and if you are still not sure check with members on the forum. Some members have been keeping fish for a number of years and perhaps have the relevant experience to deal with certain queries.

Thank you all for helping me. My tank is 27 degrees celcius. I read about goldfish they can be in a heated tank between 5 to 30 degrees celcius. I just bought some algea wafer for my pleco but the goldfish ate it lol.

27 is a bit high for goldies to be honest, even my tropical tanks are only kept at 24-26oC

it's only things like discus that are used to much warmer temperatures that you'd keep at 27 really

for goldies it should be closer to 21/22 i think.

Well my LFS told me to put it on this temperature because i have a common pleco in my tank.
