What Can I Add To My Tank?

Hi

I have had my 200l tank now for quite a few years now and fancied adding a fish. I was looking for something special rather than your average platy,tetra or molly. It is a freshwater tank.

I currently have,

2 angel fish
2 key hole cichlids
4 serpae tetras
5 phantom tetra
1 rasbora
1 guarami

The schooling fish are low numbers I know but I have had them for years and they have reduced in numbers without being replaced as I was looking for a change completely eventually.

I was just wondering what sort of fish I could add that would be different. (and still get along with current fish)

Could you post the dimensions of the tank, and whether your water is hard or soft, please? We really need to know that before we can advise on species

 
Also, what sort of gourami is it?

Hi, I'd agree with Fluttermoth, we really need to know what type of water you have. It's always best to stock your tank for water type rather than attempting to change the water you have to suit the fish you want.
 
All of your current stock are soft water fish so if we find that your water is suitable for these types I'd be looking to add some colourful shoalers to add interest. They'd need to be on the larger side though as things such as neons, cardinals etc may become food for the angels.

Hi thanks for the response sorry yes the water is soft I haven't got a test kit to tell you exactly how soft but I do live in a soft water area. And the dimensions are 3ft long by 1ft I think. And the guarami is a three spotted one.

only 3ft? it's a bit too small in my opinion for angelfish. At that size, with the stock you have I wouldn't be looking to add anything else really other than maybe some small bottom dwellers such as cories

Corydoras should never be kept singly, they're very social fish, who have evolved to live in large groups
 
I'm also not sure what you mean by 'useful'. Really, no aquarium fish are 'useful', in any meaningful sense; they will all create extra waste and need proper feeding.

Thank you guys for your responses they are helpful. So my tank is fully stocked regarding fish (excluding bottom dwellers)? Would I be over stocking though if I were to add a catfish?
And my angel fish do seem quite happy there is no aggression at all.

If by catfish you are meaning a pleco I personally I wouldn't add a pleco to this tank. They can be very messy fish and with you already being fully stocked (in my opinion) it could put strain on the water parameters. This is purely my opinion and I'm basing it on my old 110 litre tank which was a similar size. I did put my angels in there on their own to see if they would breed and raise some young and based on what room they had to move around I wouldn't have added anything more in with them.
 
If by catfish you are meaning corydoras then yes, I think you could get away with a group of the smaller cories - such as the panda cory which is generally readily available in the trade and doesn't grow big. You could look on planet catfish to get some idea's of which cories stay relatively small. Cories are a shoaling species and will need a minimum group of 6 of the same type.
