Just a curiosity thread, but what are your fav types of colours, patterns or general tail or fin varieties etc when it comes to guppys and platys? I ask this since there is so much variety when it comes to these two types of livebearers, many people buy them specifically for their appearance when choosing them.
As for me, my fav colour/pattern/tail type etc varieties of guppys are;

a. Blue. I love the colour blue for guppys, wish there were more blue ones sold where i live. I also like green a lot, and violet too- never owned any green or violet colour guppys though. I also saw a beautiful shade of pink male guppys once, shiny pink like a pearl- i did buy a male guppy of this colouring but he died within 2 weeks of having him. I will try and find some more pink guppys though if i ever see them again.
b. Snakeskin/cobra pattern varieties- love them all, no matter what colour they are i love this classic patterning on guppys. Pretty much all of my homebred guppys have this patterning, in either red, yellow or both. Would be awesome to get some blue, green or violet snakeskin/cobra guppys though.
c. With tail types, i actually prefer the normal short tailed guppys to the fancy types- i do own one delta tailed male guppy who has fathered quite a few fry in my tanks, but he is an exception.

As far as platys are concerned;
a. I love black and white a lot with platys (even though few of mine are), and i know it sounds kinda weird, but i also like brown a lot as it makes a nice natural contrast to all the more colourful platys (also it has a sentimental value to me as well, since some of the very first platy fry i ever bred years ago were brown with dark brown or black tails and yellow platys with black tails- i acheived these colours from breeding grey females with an orange male with black fins and tail).
b. Love calico and plainted pattern varities of platys- i also like wagtail and twinbar ones too. Mickymouse platys are cute too, but its been a while since i had any. I bough some black and white calico platys the other day, one of the females i knowingly bought has some tail damage but i am treating that already and hope she'll make a full recovery.
c. With tails types and stuff, i prefer the natural physical appearance of platys a lot, but i find highfin platys very attractive too.

How about you girls/guys :) ?

Guppys
Love snakeskin/cobra styles, but i don/t have any yet :shifty: i gotta love the colour on two of my females, they have a half yellow half black body with a blue/yellow/red tail, heres a pic of one, and also my red females, (my females seem to be more colourful than the males :lol:)

i also like lyretail guppies, have two males at the moment
Platy's
i dont have any platies, but i love the twinbars and the sunset platies

Thats a lovely colouring on the female guppy you have there, i don't have any new pics of the new platys and guppys (female guppys, dark body and red/orange sort of tails) i bought recently, but i have some pics of my other platys and guppys;

I guess he has a bit of a delta tail, but its definately not as extreme/huge as the tail on my true delta tailed male guppy- this red male guppy descends from a long line of guppys, going way back to the first male guppy i ever had many years ago.

cool fish, love there colour, thanks for the comment, i bred her myself don't know how she ended up like that though i'm sure she came from both red parents, theres two and i think they are identical twins :lol: really like your yellow twinbar platy, might have to get a few myself

Lol thats the thing with breeding guppys, you never really know what sort of colours they'll get when they mature if you keep lots of different colour guppys. But i guess thats also what i like about raising guppy and platy fry- at the moment i have tons of tiny platy and guppy fry in a fry tank which i can't wait to see what colours they'll develop as they grow older, i wish they'd grow up faster lol :lol: .

At the moment though i recently separated all of my male guppys from the females, i've had so many male guppys maturing over the last month or so i suddenly realised that the males were way outnumbering the females so i separated all the males (also to help prevent them inbreeding with their sisters) into another tank- i've counted 16 male guppys so far, and there are some maturing fry in the main tank which i suspect will also turn into males too.
Thankfully the platys aren't half as bad with only 5 or so males at the moment, but i still separated some of the males from the females none the less. So at the moment i'm beginning to increase the amount of female guppys while the guppys in the main tank are all females and no males, the females actually seem to be having a good time without any of the guys around, i think i'll only introduce the males back once i've got enough females and the current females have all finished their current pregnancies and had some time off to help give them a bit of a break :thumbs: .

I will try and get some pics later on of my new platys and guppys, if you have any more pics of your guppys i'd be interested in seeing them too :thumbs: .
