What Are These Plants?

My LFS sells bunches without labels, so I don't know the names of these:

1. hard to ID as its blurry. if it has green and white leaves its a dracena sp. A bog plant that will rot in your tank and will do better on the windowsil. Not a true aquatic plant.

2. looks like didiplis diandra or similar. given the right conditions it will grow like a weed. i use plants like that to use up excess nutrients when i first start a planted tank. it helps prevent an algae outbreak by having a larger biomass of plants. Its the kinda stuff sold in bunches for 99p - easy to grow.

3. looks like blyxa japonica. - more demanding.


Dont hold me to any of those.

its best you research plants before buying as you can just waste money. I give them as much research as i do fish....

thats a good shout, i couldnt think of that name. its more likely to be elodea as its more commonly sold that didplis.

Yes, just keep it well watered

Not doubting you, but do you think I could keep it in the tank just on the off chance it's aquatic?

It isn't, I am 100% certain. No aquatic plant has a stem like that.

I agree, if you do want it in the tank, then the only way is if you keep the roots buried in the water with the leaves emmersed. You could buy a plastic plant pot and attach a sucker to it if you want to do this.
