Just wondering what the rules are as maybe being a bit stuffy but i dont want my kids to see topless men or topless women as a picture in someones avatar
What are the rules concerning fleshy photos - i know totally odd but thats me , i would just be happier not to see anyones boobies when i come on site be it male or female and surely if males can be topless then there cant be a rule against females being topless .
Okay i'm warbling

Did I miss some topless male avatars :hyper: Where, where

No idea what the rules are Sarah, Im sure a mod will confirm at some point.

Basically, it has to be suitable for a family forum so definitely no topless photos. I don't know that there is a set rule for avatars but our general forum rules state:

"you will not use this bulletin board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise a violation of any law."

That would cover avatars too. Of course, obscene can be any number of things, not just nudity. If you ever see an avatar that is offensive on these lines, please report it to a mod.

Quoted from the board's rules:-

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this bulletin board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise a violation of any law.

I'm sure you could probably fit naked bodies into one of those categories if you tried.

If you have concerns about a particular person's avatar, PM a mod with your concerns and I'm sure the issue will be addressed.

Cheers :good:

BTT

Edit: Beat me to it again, RDD. I'm getting onto the touch typing course this afternoon!!

The forums have to walk a fine line, and it is ultimately up to the mods and admins to decide what is and isn't offensive.

One the one hand, you cannot just cater to every whim... what if I found fedora hats offensive? Should minxfishy have to remove their avatar? What if someone else found lab coats offensive? Should I have to remove mine?

On the other, you don't want a free for all.

Generally speaking, it is acceptable for a man to go topless a lot more places than it is acceptable for a woman to. And, there are many, many more topless men on TV than topless women. I think it would be reasonable if the mods decide that a shirtless man is okay but a shirtless woman isn't, based on what is accepted as reasonable in a lot of other media.

Please don't remove your lab coat unless you are presentable under there.

Seriously, I didn't read the original post correctly. I agree with Bignose that a bare chested man is socially acceptable in most countries although not in all situations. You see them daily on regular TV (not just the late night stuff where women are also that way), in print media and at the beach and pool. Most all male aquatic athletes (divers, swimmer, etc.) are bare chested. On the other hand, in most countries, a woman's bare chest is not considered acceptible. I guess some may see that as a double standard but it's just the way our society is.

What if the bare male chest in question is unattractive?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, any rules pertaining to this topic remain the same regardless of beauty or the lack thereof.

Better change mine.....don't want to frighten the children

Just to clarify, I wasn't talking about any member in particular. lol I have no idea who the OP had in mind.
