if you havnt heard I have a 10 gallon tank i have just started cycling. i would like to know what are some good live stock options for my tank. like cleaning crew, fish and inverts. :D i am getting a better lighted hood this weekend for my tank because all i have now is two normal short light that came with the hood. should i add the cleaning crew this weekend with the new lights, as my tank has been cycling for 1 week so far?

thnx

Cleanup crew should go in when water chemistry is as follows:

Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = <20-30ppm
sg = 1.021-1.027 stable
pH = 7.9-8.5 stable
Temp 76-83f

If parameters do not match those values, do not add your crew until they are corrected. Usually any needed correction will involve only water changes and patience :good:

Get a pair of clowns. Stay away from Damsels, clean up crew options:

-2 or 3 Blue Legged Hermits
-4 nassarius snails
-3 Astrea snails (Not highly reccomended as they have a hard time getting up if they fall on there backs, but still good cleaners :) )

Theres lots of things other than just clowns...
Yasha haze gobys, yellow watchman gobys, clown gobys (green, yellow, and brown), two spot gobys, fire gobys, and neon gobys are just a few of the many goby species arround.
All of them are small, colourful fish, that would go great in your tank.

I would also add a shrimp to your clean up crew :good:

i was thinking of getting scarlets not blue. is that a good switch or do they do entierly different things?
if i get a clown will i have to or can i put an anemone in the tank? ive been reading and they sound extremely hard to take care of!

thnx

Clowns do not require anemone hosts at all. In fact, many clowns will choose to host in tentacled corals or even sometimes large feather dusters. An anemone in a 10g is a very bad idea IMO. Chemistry, lighting, and flowrate are usually not stable or adequate for an anemone. They do best in large tanks

ok so your saying if i get somthing like a plate coral a clown fish will host that?

Maybe it will, maybe it wont. If you really want to see the "hosting" behavior in a coral, get skunk clownfish. They tend to "host" corals more than any other type of clown in my experience. I've seen some in tentacled plates, hammer, frogspawn, torch, goniopora (not reccomended for beginners), elegance (also not reccomended), and even in devils finger leathers or sacrophytons.

Just because you get a clown that usually likes to host does not mean he will. Some individuals just aren't into it

What lights have you got?

Mikey
