I had a hange on for my 10g that crashed on me and have since fixed it. But i just threw away the biopad after it happened thinking the filter was broke. So now i need to buy another bio filter pad but having trouble finding them for sell. So figured if i could find the material, i would just make my own. So what would be the best material to use as a bio filter media?

I just put sponge & floss in most any hob. You have to be careful not to overpack the cartridge hob's the pumps choke with too thick of media.

If they don't know what filter floss is you had better start patronizing another shop. Most places sell it by the bag for cheap.
