I was thinking about future members of my community tank. I currently have 6 Tiger barbs and a red tailed shark. I was at my local IFs and saw a beautiful Bala shark which was about 2 inches big. Now i almost bought him...but i didnt and decided to do a little homework first. Now....i have a 65 gallon tank..and was wondering if i could add 1 of these Balas to my growing community.

1. Are balas ok by themselves or are they better in a group.?
2. Ive read that they can become quite large. Do i have room for him?
3. Will he be compatable with my current fish.

Thanks for any help... Plus if u have an ideas u can give me about some fish i could consider...let me know :D

This has been said numerous of times by numerous members. Bala Sharks look nice in the lfs. Leave them there. Unless you have a living room wall sized tank to house at least 3, keep away.
It seems to be the thing, at the moment. To own a shark.
Just like it was the thing to have a Rotweiller.

Sooo...stupid question...well i was just wondering...still new and full of questions...maybe some different ideas for some new fish dragonslaye? :D

Gouramis? Nt too sure what they are like with the little barbs though, i have seen them with red-tail shark, and i think i saw a cory in there  not sure if it was a cory, i am new to all these fish things :p

Don't get a gourami with tiger barbs. The barbs will nip their pelvic fins

There are any number of the small/medium sized South American and West African cichlids that would work well in your tank, which is shaping up to be a "Semi-aggressive Community".

Some other options might include:
Buenos Aires Tetra
Serpae Tetra
Congo Tetra
Silver Dollars
Giant Danios
Chinese Algae Eater
Flying Fox

That's a start at least. Good luck!
