You must be - it's a fish that I kept for over a year, but I never got the colours they can have. And when I say over a year - mot much over a year. They are an "advanced" fish.
Keeping Discus is like keeping goldfish when it comes to some of these blackwater tetras.

I would love to get them again,and would jump at it (as long as I had time to set up a tank first). This would be a fish to breed, not to make money (the market for the unknown is tiny) but to keep. I would be curious to see how long they can live. That's over to you to find out - I lost mine...

I ended up getting 1 male and 2 females ( they are in my current TOM entry ) so you can see the environment they seem, to be thriving in... the females are just as colorful as the male, they just lack the very extended dorsal fin ( whip antenna ), mine eat well of my normal tank's varied diet, of foods, and are peaceful with all their other tank mates pictures are difficult with the dark water, and high flow rate… but my 3 are in this picture, male is lower left

I think that as long as we keep the tankwater clean, etc, they can live well. The huge IF is shipping. I think they need oxygen, and they have a reputation for either dying or coming in very rough when shipped. If they survive that, then with a little attention and skill, they're good.

If anyone ever tries these in a father fish type set up, they'd be dead in a week or two. But with reasonable tlc, they are a really lovely fish.
