Well Water And Betta's

I live just outside the city and have well water.

We use a water softener on our water.. My question is im assuming this water wouldn't be safe then?

Is well water in general even good for fish? I have to go to my local store to buy gallon jugs of it which can add up in the cost area.....

ideas?

If you test your well water and post the results here someone may be able to advise you.
Ph and hardness tests would be a good place to begin.

Well I don't have a master test kit as i dont have the money to get one. any ideas where I can get one for cheep?

I only have ammonia and PH testers right now

I have well water and have never had an issue with my fish.

As mentioned above, testing pH and hardness would be the first step.

And I don't know where you're located, but id you have a pet supplies plus near you, they have master test kits on sale for about 22 dollars right now.

I use a water softener for my water and my fish are perfectly fine, I dont think that this will affect any fish negativly other than the ones who like hard water

I've never had to do this fortunatly.
For the benefit of the OP (and for my own reffernce,) do you need to know your origonal water hardness and treat accordingly or do you treat by volume?
or both?

Well with our water softener we use bags of salt so that is my conern.

Yes the rock salt come sin bags with a whole bunch of rock salts in them? Is that like yours?

So your saying as long as I go get my water tested and it looks okay I can use it in my fish tanks?
