Frustrated.

When I was involved with the hobby years ago I always had Kuhli’s. Never had a problem with them. In fact they were always one of my favorite fish. So when I decided to get back into it I of course needed Kuhlis. They were doing very well. I watched them grow for about 3 months or more….until? Something happened and I’m not sure what it was. They simply flipped out…..all were gone within 48 hours.

I’m not getting into why here but what I am looking for is a good alternative.

What comes to mind of course are Cory’s but maybe there are other options as well. I have a Bristle Nose Pleco that is doing well along with 3-4 Ghost Shrimp

Before any new fish of any species are acquired, you need to determine the issue that caused the demise of the kuhli loaches.

Aside from disease possibilities, there may be issues with the substrate, water parameters, water conditions. It is certainly not unusual for "x" species to be decimated by something that "y" species may tolerate.

Whatever the problem was it literally happened overnight. They had never acted that way before. Nothing changed that I can think of outside of adding a few new plants

I've seen those one species die offs a few times.

What's the water change routine on the tank? And the temperature?

Loaches are often more affected by protozoan type parasites than other fish. Do you think something could have hitch-hiked from the plants, if they were in with fish at the store?

It happened so suddenly. They were fine one day then the next morning they were going crazy. They simply jumped out

Jumping out is a big clue.

From what I have seen, it is the result of either declining water quality reaching a breaking point, or something really scaring them.
