Well Lost Now :/

How are you cleaning your tank? Do you use a gravel vac or just a bucket etc?

I would strongly reccommend a good gravel vac of the whole of the bottom of your tank, as it maybe a build up of nasty waste under the gravel, which without using a vac, you would not know about.

Water changes granted are excellent but without a vac after time I think it is pointless, as after a day or two the waste has re-established its nasties in the so called clean water.

I wouldnt add any salt to be honest, the plecs and the snails definatly will not like this. Maybe a tiny pinch dissolved into your water change just to help boost the electrolytes and so on of the water but nothing more than a tea spoon in my opinion.

I hope all your fish feel better soon and from what I can gather it maybe a build up under the apparently clean gravel.

Hope you get sorted and keep us updated :)

Paul

No sorry donr mean 100 percent I mean down so low to give them enough room to swim. Surely the stress they are going through ay the moment will be less than a large water change hope u can get it sorted out mate

Yeah my filter is set so its blowing bubbles in to the water and i usually have an air stone on in the day

But do you have powerful enough circulation? Bubbles popping at the surface don't oxygenate the bottom of the tank. Air pumps are more decorative than anything else. Do you have a spray bar on the filter?

Hey paul it could be my sand thats a thought i normally just vacume the top of the sand not get stuck in. I heard if left liads of gases form under the sand maby something disturbed?

Im using an interpet pf3 filter it seems poeerfull enough my plants are moving on the other side of the tank.

Yeah was just a thought that was all, just i have had a couple of times where I just vacuum the water out and dont get into the gravel, after a few goes over a few weeks i think to myself I maybe should get into the gravel and find a horrific amount of waste and food in certain dead spots.

I wasnt sure you had sand, personally its not my favourite, just from a bad expirience with one of my old 2ft tanks but hey! live and learn.

If thats not the case then Im stumped to be honest but hope you solve it and keep us in the know how.

Paul

Yeah sand is a little akward to clean im gona have a good clean tomorrow. If i lose any more ill put fish in hospital tank and have good clean up

You don't need to get stuck into sand as all waste sits on top of it. If your worried about those gases just put ur finger in the sand and disturb it slightly I much prefer sand as u can see any waste hope u get this sorted mate

I just caught the bit about adding salt?? Please don't add salt ... corydoras and salt do NOT mix.

Kk thanks for infi on salt wont add. Just checked fish and the corrys are really active now first tume in a while :)

That's wonderful. I'm going to go back and read this whole topic. Just from glancing it looks like you might have been given some misinformation.

oh ok well i am really out of ideas then... but i would keep up doing maybe a water change or even 2 a day and put something in the water that kills bad bactaria or maybe even fish tank salt just to kill anything that might be bad in the water... just keep up the water changes and i wish you best.. maybe some1 else will know what to do

Why are you recommending to "put something in the water that kills bad bactaria or maybe even fish tank salt" when a) an antibacterial agent will also kill all the good bacteria that we all strive to maintain, and b) the salt is very bad for corydoras.

I'm just afraid that the angels you tossed in there might have brought something with them. I didn't see that you quarantined them before adding them in with the other fish. It's something you should always do, as many of us here on the forum have discovered the hard way.

My best advice right now is to do a huge water change, enough so the fish have just enough room to swim upright. New water should be treated with StressCoat+ or Seachem Prime to also remove any trace metals that could be harmful. Also temp match the water and slowly add it back in the tank. You may need to do this every day for some time.

When you do your normal water changes and filter upkeep, what do you do exactly?

+1 big water change... watch your levels for ammonia/nitrite daily for a while and do large water changes if you see any color besides ZERO for either one. The fish will enjoy the water change much more than the toxins. Temp matched (rough estimate is fine), dechlorinated water added SLOWLY to ensure that the difference in water parameters is changed slowly. Fish can acclimate to differences, but they need time for it to be safe for them. Don't add new fish to this tank for at least 3 weeks to make sure that everything is settled. During those 3 weeks, visit your LFS and watch the tanks closely if you don't have a quarantine tank. Look for sick fish, look for illness in any tank. Find out if the filters are independent or if the entire store is on one system. If it is one system, illness in one tank means trouble in all of them, whereas if they are on separate systems illness in one tank doesn't spread to others. Watch the fish closely. Keep an eye on how much turnover there is with different fish. If a fish has been at the store for a few weeks, then you can be fairly certain that they are disease free. But, if the fish come in right before you buy them, you can't be certain of anything. Also, it is less stressful for the fish to settle in to the LFS before they have to settle in all over again in your tank.

Didn't you lose most fish occupants in this tank six months or so ago, or am I mixing you up with another forum member? If so, it increases the odds of something more sinister being at work here.

Hey the angel fish where added after the loss of other fish. The shop i get them from is usually a good shop where i have never had a problem with them. All fish tanks there look really good they are all connected. And they alos have there own tank connected where they keep some big fish of there own. So hopefully there fine. :/

My water changes are normally done with 2 buckets pipe to suck water ill siphon water out sucking up any debris on bottom of tank till ive removed 20% of water. Then id remove the filter take out the filter pads rinse them in the dirty water. shake the filter few times in the bucket put it back together. Then id fill up buckets with fresh water add dechlor add heater and when temp is right, Put bucket on top of the tank and siphon water back in evenly so less stress on the fish.

Your right i did have theis problem about months ago alot worse then. But then the whole tank got stripped everything rinsed out several times even the sand and plants. Had a mini cycle and all back to normal. I did have some building work going on at the time aswell Still got my BN from then aswell.

Cheers guys
