Well, I now know my corys can spawn....

Hi ddreams :)

Wait and see if anything happens. I have panda that have eggs that turn that color. They look really bad, but they still hatch.

If they get white and fuzzy looking, that's when you have lost them for sure. :X

Some did look white for a while (not all just a few) but none turned fuzzy.

Right now I can only count 6 eggs, but that doesn't mean I'm not missing some. I changed heaters today because some I picked up from Off-Ice over at Plantgeek arrived and I didn't feel the little 25 Watt old one I had was keeping the temp right, let alone being a generic non-dependable heater. While doing so I accidently kicked the bubble wand up full bore so the eggs went for a swim..... -_-

I'm hoping they are still alright.... :/

We have Fry! Now I'm scared to do a water change. :/ I didn't think they would hatch....

Edit: I'm going to go get Hikari First bites for them...

Congratulations on the fry! How many so far? You can do a water change, I just wouldn't use the syphon quite yet. Instead, scoop out water with a cup. I think that's what I did at first (although I really don't remember). To clean out the fry tank, now that they're a bit older, I use the hose from my gravel vac, but detach the gravel vac. Sometime the fry still get sucked up though  Must be like a roller coaster ride for 'em or something! With the exception of one, who got squished before going through the tube, they've all been fine. I just scoop 'em out of the bucket and put 'em back in the tank.

How are they doing so far? -_-

Very active and probably not liking the current, since it sends them rolling sideways sometimes. ;)

They are very small. I'm wishing I had a sponge filter, but I didn't expect these eggs to hatch. :/

Edit: Somewhere around 5 or 6, maybe more.

Hi ddreams :)

Congratulations on the new fry!

What lizard suggested to clean the tank, is what I do for the first week or two. The movement of the water will be enough to bring residue up from the bottom and it will be removed with the water,

As to the water current, try pulling your airstone up so that it is hanging up near the top of the tank. You might be able to hold it up there by clipping a clothespin on the edge of the tank, and pushing the airline down between the two parts that stick up on the top.

As soon as they are big enough to escape injury from it, you will see that they seem to enjoy the agitation caused by pouring the water in while doing a water change. :D

Mine do! Another "amusement-park ride" for the fish!

I made a sponge filter very cheaply - cost me 97 cents! I got a sponge from Wal-Mart (found it in the automotive section, it had some sort of netting over it, but I cut that off). When I got home, I took a UGF tube from a one-gallon AquaView tank I had and twisted that on the sponge until it was worked about halfways down the sponge. Then, I put the airline tube, hooked up to an air pump, into the tube, and viola! - a sponge filter! Looks sorta like this, at least from the front ---I--- the "I" is the UFG tube, the --- the sponge. I have pictures of it, but they're not uploaded on this computer, so I can't add 'em to this post.

Here's a rough likeness of it, though. The | | is the UGF tube and the ! represents the airline tube. The little <<<< and >>>> are just space fillers, 'cause if I don't put them it, it just moves my lines all next to each other. Does it make any sort of sense?

<<<<<| ! |
--------| >|-------
I>>>>>| > |>>>>|
-------------------

Good luck with those cute (well, they'll be cute pretty soon :p ) little fry! What kind are they again? Bronze?

Edit: I added the little <<<< to try and keep the lines from moving around.

Actually, you don't need a filter for quite some time. The tank will remain uncycled, but since you are doing daily water changes, the chemicals from their waste products will be removed that way.

They do need at least an airstone to keep the surface moving somewhat, and a sponge filter serves the same purpose, as well as providing a place where microorganisms can grow. It's not unusual to see some of the fry eating them off the surface of the sponge. :D

I appreciate all the help. I will look into picking up a sponge filter the beginning of next week. :)

The tumbling is actually their "choice"

I was watching them and they boost them selves up a little to catch the current and then tumble w/ no movement. They wait till it completely stops, then do it it again. ;)
