This might be very obvious, but im not 100% sure.

There is weird brownish looking stuff at the bottom of my tank, I've had it set up with white sand for a couple months now and Ive never seen this before. It's like brownish clumpy stuff. At first I thought it was fish waste or excess food, but it's been there for a few days now so im guessing it would of turned to ammonia by now.

My guess now is algae, but it really doesnt look like it would be. I switched to a powerglo about 2 weeks ago and I know they produce algae.

Can anyone help me in knowing what this is ? aha

If you could give us a picture that would help but from what your describing it sounds like algae growth. I've seen things kinda like it in certain pet stores.

does it look like this?

I'd find that a little disturbing :shifty:

Could be a kind of fungus growing off of excess food. Is it kind of slimey feeling?

It looks more like stuff thats on the individual sand rocks. Like its growing on them, I mean it's really weird. A week ago my sand was white, and now some of the sand looks its darker coloured like theres something growing on it.

I know it's not a good picture but that sand is susposed to be white basically. It's like its attached to the sand rocks, I dont get it. Anyone know whats going on?

The only thing I see is a little brown patch on the rock on the left. Is that what your talking about?
If so to me I would think it's a type of brown algae. Does it look like it's long kind of and stringy like?

It's hard to see in the picture but a patch in the middle of the tank, just in the middle a bunch of brownish looking stuff has developed on the sand.

The sides are all fine and this has never happened for a couple months that i've had the sand. It's not stringy, its like its growing on the sand and its hard to get off.

I'm guessing no one knows what this is

Most likely it is redesolved solids. Just make sure it isn't fungus. I got some of it in my canister tubing sometimes. Just check your parimeters and you should be alright.

You will have to clean it then. I would take a gravel vac and vacuum it up if it is loose. If not scrape it off while the gravel vac is syphoning so the stuff doesn't make a mess.

Or 'poon it out ;)
