once my tank is fully set up (3ft, 21.5 uk gallon) I'm under orders from the rest of my family to get "a weird looking fish"

what fish would you class as being "weird"?

Why not ask in the oddballs section of the forum - that's where you talk about weird fish.

How about dwarf pufferfish? They're weird (and cute!). I don't know what you could keep with them, but I think you could keep about 6 in a 20 gal :)

I forgot about that section (stupid me)

dwarf pufferfish are actually pretty cool....but would they be alright in a freshwater tropical tank (seeing as i've only ever seen puffers in the marine section of the FS)

They better not go in a marine section of they will die very soon after. They are true freshwater fish. The tank should be well cycled and there should be some snail action before you add them though.

Dwarf puffers are 100 percent freshwater so you wouldn't have to worry about doing anything with salt.

I think the puffers I saw were salt water fish since I've only ever seen the puffers around my county in the marine section (and 90% of the time these were the large dog-faced puffers)

I'm tempted by puffers only (from what I've read) they don't mix very well with other species (feel free to correct me here) and I honestly don't think they sell freshwater puffers anywhere around here

If you can't get dwarf puffers near you, fair enough. Keep an eye out next time you go to your lfs. Btw, I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that they are brackish, which means they want a little bit of salt. So that could be why you see them near the marine section - cos they both use salt in the water :dunno:

My advice is go and ask in the oddballs section - they can give you more info on dwarf puffers or suggest other fish :)
