Weighting Plants?

Thanks for all your replies.

It is not that easy to ID plants from photos it seems

Next time I'll get the names from the shop and write them down.

I can't ID the plants, but I took some pictures:

3rd:

And last type:

Having searched again I think no. 3 is Silver Foxtail (Mayaca Fluviatilis)
number 4 is a Pennywort (Hydrocotyle Leucocephala)

just thought I'd add that lead weights sold with plants are fine in aquariums, but aren't very good for growing plants, as they will crush stems.

cheers :good:

I was sold the first type as an aquatic plant once at my LFS, I took it out and planted it in a regular plant pot

I have now done the same.

They started rotting after a few days.

I don't see what shops have to gain in the long run by selling these as aquatics.

i would guess that because they rot you have to go back and buy new ones so they get more money
also they may be cheaper to buy

You're probably right, but they would perhaps make more money if they instilled trust in their customers.

I am now unsure about whether to buy anything from them (at least plant wise). Although the other advice they gave me seems to be good as far as I can tell.

After having bought a non-aquatic plant from my LFS I was put off for a little while however even the display quality of their plants isn't too appealing there. So seeing as all their tanks are clean and the fish are healthy, I decided to let them off thinking they genuinely don't know anything about plants.
