Website Making

You should lurn some basic ASP, PHP and CCS and then look into stoerinf data on a database saveing editing 100's of pages of HTML.

Nonsense, you don't really need PHP or ASP t to run a successful site. Mind you, it can be useful, but it's not a major requierement. CSS and HTML however is. Neither do you need a database to edit 100's of pages.

I personally think it's best know XHTML, CSS and some basic PHP, especially if you're going to design the site yourself.

^ I agree.

What kind of website are you going to take seriously, a website that is full of errors and looks thrown together, or a professional looking one? Granted I've managed to code up some nice looking sites only using CSS and HTML, but eventually I had to start using PHP/mySQL modules for certain things. When things go wrong with those if you don't know how to fix them it's a PITA.

It's wrong to think that you need PHP/MySQL to run a web site that is taken seriously and without errors. You can design perfect looking CSS/(X)HTML web sites without any errors which also looks professional. If you can't do that and you feel that need PHP/MySQL to achieve that goal then you need to work on your web design skills. And as for web sites taken seriously; people care more about useful and unique content then whether the site is run by PHP/MySQL.
I admit that at some level you can't get around PHP/MySQL, but for a lot of sites it's really not necessary.

PHP has nothing to do with the graphical design of a website. A lot of scripts are written in PHP, and it has useful functions like includes.

Ditto, however I use ASP, then creat a total layout using html and CSS, then include this to the whole site, course advanced features like tracking, login, banners add's and other routines needed.

You can make a site as easy or difficualt as u want, but lurning some the more advanced features is what we are all saying if you want to make a real go of it.

But with out trying your never know.

If you want to lurn i wouls say CSS, Java, ASP and ASP.net firstly CSS though then work from there.
I strated to lurn ASP about 5 years ago and only just started to get in to CSS so i still have a lot to lurn my self.
I like to do things back to frount ;)

Me, no it's snitz forums which has been devloped and personalised over 7 years with help from other snitz groups.

I said that eventually I had to turn to more complex scripting to get what I wanted, but that nice looking sites can be made just with CSS and HTML.

The comments about quality and professionalism had more to do with obvious spelling errors, obvious misinformation, and advertisements.

You make the wrong assumption that nobody uses Linux/Unix servers by advising people to learn ASP.

I would say HTML is the most basic and the most important. MySQL would also be a great thing to add to your realm of knowledge.

Agreed, HTML is the most important.. Then Css after that.. then knowing the Xhtml afterward for the HTMl purposes... Then you can learn coldfusion, php, and whatever else you want...

Well thats only coz i use ASP but course PHP is out there, I'm not saying not to use PHP as it's very powerfull and much more advanced than ASP (thats why i then added ASP.net as this is as good as PHP). However with dyslexia it's hard enough to lurn one language, and don't have the time to study other's.

But well all gotta try it out some time to build a site, you can get many free layouts but most look tacky. When designing you just want something simple to follow and don't have any horrific colour's, keep it simple colour coding, Also avoid black layouts, easy to do and look quite good but they have an amateur look.
