Great to hear that they are getting more adventerous and that you are getting to see more of them.

I would still be inclined to keep the bubs for myself, just so you know they are remaining in a good home and all of course ;) .

Went to clean out the parents tank today and started syphoning up eggs!!!, so put the water back in and just did a wc. I doubt they will hatch with the parents in the tank as I think they will eat the eggs, but you never know!!!

Babies are now really out and about most of the day and will remain out when I am sitting by the tank now instead of hiding so much, I counted 8 out together, sadly more rubbish pict as they move by the time my camera is in focus :(

The larger ones seem to be female and the smaller ones with the slight gold tint appear to be male, I have identified 3 female and 2 male the others not sure of yet.

These babies are growing up nicely :) I decided to keep them in the end I had 9 babies all together once I moved them :). I have set up a paladarium style river system with a rock waterfall at one end branches and lots of moss all over the tank. I have also added some WCMM and 4 little striped hillstream loach. Pics of the tank will be up later. The parents are in with the fry again now as they keep spawning, but with all the other fish in the tank now no eggs survive, which is sad but good as I have no more room lol

Set up is a rio 260 rockwork waterfall with part gravel the rest sand, loaded with bogwood and alder twigs, heavily planted with java moss, some java fern and anubias. Out of water wood with moss covering. Modified tank lid with glass back section to allow natural light (tank in conservatory) creating lots of biofilm for the hillstream loach.

To keep the water temperature cool on hot days I have added a cool mister that creates a mist across the water, which also waters the spider plant and live moss.

Blimey, they've grown!!!

Did you sell the pair?

Tank looks great, never seen a mister before, looks interesting.

No, kept mum & dad too lol. The mister was given to me with some other bits and bobs, it has lights too. You know me I will accept any fishy equipment :)

They are starting to spend a lot of time together again, lying by one another and the female is looking plump again so a couple of weeks time I guess they will spawn again. I doubt any eggs would survive with all the other fish in the tank, but you never know a couple of eggs may roll under a rock or get lost in the moss and hatch :)

Wow I love your new set up, and great to see a Hillstream loach (although I generally call them Borneo Suckers). Glad to hear that you not only kept the proven breeding pair as well as the bubs :good: . It will be interesting to find out if once the bubs are mature if they will be more inclined to spawn since they where bred naturally in a tank with no hormone injections or striping of the roe and milt to obtain them.
Its also heartening to know that so called unable to be bred in aquaria/captivity fish can in fact be bred by people in their own homes.

Thanks Baccus, I am chuffed with how the tank is looking, the fish love it. It will be interesting to see if any of the fry to spawn, I think maybe next year March time will be interesting.

Keep us posted. I have always suspected that once a particular "bloodline"of a species has bred in captivity the trend/ habit is sort of inherited by the offspring if that makes sense. The hard part is getting the conditions right to encourage the hard to bred species in the mood in the first place.

That is what I am hoping, that and the tank being to their liking :)
