I probably won't be able to re start my long 20g for a few months due to me being short on cash. The water has soured and smells kinda bad so I would like to empty the tank complety. I have heard storys of where after the tank is filled up and then emptied for months the the seams holding the glass together become weak and the tank being as sturdy and stable as a very old woman on a pogo stick. So will the tank be ok if I empty it for a few months or not?

Seals do weaken when left dry but for a few months or even a couple years you have little to worry about IMHO.

Nice similie there Durbkat! ;)

One of my 55gal was used as a tank for a Iguna that was left out in the sun for about 6 years and the seals are just as good as a brand new tank.

The 10 gallon I am using was my wife's when she was a kid. She is 31 now. It was stored in her parent's attic for about 10 years. Then we used it in college. Then it was in our attic for 5 years or so. Now we are using it again. Attics get very hot on summer days.

Well thats not really the same because you don't fill the tank up with water since igunas aren't fish. :p

I had a used 20 high sitting empty in the fishroom closet for a year. Well it wasn't quite empty, no water, but pretty full of spare fishroom equipment, a 20 gallon junk bin. I filled it, added a heater & cycled filter, then fish. No leaks or other problems.

the one im about to use has been empty for a lot of years, i hope its okay. no signs of leaks when i filled it, buy i might not know untule its filled full time.
