Hey, this is my first post!

I have a question about some WCMM we currently have in a tropical tank that is set at 75F. I am thinking of setting up a cold water tank in my bedroom and would love to move my minnows in to it (plus add a few more!), but I am worried that the temperature change might well kill them. I would rather not have to buy new equipment for the cold water tank to keep them at the current temperature.

I was thinking of just putting them into the tank with enough water they're already in to fill it and just letting it cool, but my logic says this will be hazardous to their health.

If anyone has any tips of how to 're-acclimatise' them, I'd love to know!

hi

the safest way is to use a spare heater and graudually reduce the temp down over several days till you eventually turn the heater off
but you could try half old tank water and top up with dechlorinated tap water at the same temp and let it cool naturally (the more water you have the slower it cools the less of a shock it will be)

They will be fine at room temp.

Just drop the temp slowly and they will be fine.

If u can drop the temp 2-3f per hour they will not suffer.

Or till the small tank from the main setup move to the room, transfer the fish immediately away and the temp will drop slowly as it is.
