Iv'e seen a few photos of tropical tanks that seem to have wavemakers in them. my first question is to ask what the difference is between a powerhead and a wavemaker ? i looked on all pond solutions and they look different but the wavemaker was also labled as a powerhead but there was a different page for powerheads  . anyway i wondered if i would be ok to put a wavemaker in my tropical tank as a way of shifting excess poop off the bottom of the tank or would my fish hate the current ?

if its ok then what LPH should i be going for in a 350l 4 foot tank ?

they had this

and this

what do i choose if any ? i assumed they were marine only

A powerhead has an impeller inside it (fins at right angles to the shaft) and a wavemaker has a propeller inside (like on a boat)

The powerhead has a narrower output and a wavemaker a wider output (picture water flowing out of a narrow tube compared to a large pipe)

HTH

thanks. i was wondering which of the two posted would be ok in a tropical tank. the wavemaker starts at 2500 lph but i was thinking of getting the 3000lph but would it be too strong ?

I am yet to put one in my trop tank but I can tell you that I had a pair at opposite ends in a 7 foot marine tank and they were mega powerful (they were top quality tunze ones though!)

Sorry I can't be of more help

i bought the 3000 lph one. there was a a 15% code so only £16.99 if it doesnt work out

I have a 5200, a 4500 and 12500 lt per hour ones in my 6 footer. They are all Koralia's which are a good make IMO.

If you find yours to powerful point it at the front glass which helps to disperse the flow.
