Water Too Acidic, Angel Jerking Mouth

Yes, it is - sometimes a fish can have dropsy and actually have a sunken belly too, although it's more common to bloat out!

I guess it all depends on how big the bloating goes as to whether pineconing takes place or not. If you imagine the fish skin being stretched, it will stretch some way before the scales stick out.

Oh dear, it does sound like it's dropsy then!

:( Do you know the US equivalent to Octozin? I'm going to go to the pet store but they have given me very poor advice on medications before. Thanks.

Hi Wasif

When you click into the Tropical Fish Emergencies tab on this site, at the top of that page is a list of pinned topics. Second one down I think gives all the US common medications.

Here are two that I found on that list that deal with dropsy:

KanaPlex by Seachem
Treats bacterial fish diseases such as dropsy, pop-eye, fin/tail rot and septicemia. Safe for fresh and saltwater fish.

Bio-Spheres Anti Bacterial by Mardel
Antibacterial formula that kills bacteria that cause mouth fungus, fin and tail rot, pop-eye, dropsy, and ulcers. Prevents re-infection during treatment.

I have no idea which of these is better but I guess whatever you can get hold of at the weekend is better than not treating at all.

Bye for now - Athena

Thanks Athena,

I wasn't able to find Bio-Spheres, but I found Maroxy which also treats Dropsy according to the internet. I am applying that now.
The reason I wasn't able to reply was that I was away for 3 days and had to leave my fishes :( but another molly is dead :( and the other platy had babies  But she's looking a little down. The pH is still bad but the sharks seem to be doing better, less scraping, more swimming. But they are a bit fat around the stomach already :(. I'll treat it with Maroxy for 2 more days, and thats the maximum allowed by the medicine. I'm also going to give my angel to a better tank because I don't want anything happening to it :( I'll miss it T_T

[Edit]: My romane lettuce treatment isn't going very well. Do you know of another method to rid the Ramshorn snail infestation?

Dropsy is a symptom of a bacterial ailment, not a disease itself. Maroxy is for fungal or other external issues. Get Maracyn & Maracyn II, medicate daily for 10-14 days with at least a 50% water change daily. I know what the instructions say, disregard them.

The fastest of the medicines I can get is: Maracyn plus Biosphere with anti-bacterial: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753383 Do I need to apply Maracyn and Maracyn II at the same time?

Otherwise, I have to order:
http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/236720/i/2/product.web and
http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/236722/i/2/product.web

should I order them? 2-3 days to come.

I would get the Maracyn & Maracyn II, and yes, they can and should be used at the same time for an internal bacterial infection. Any decent shop will sell those medications, call around, they are so common often Walmart will carry them.
