I have just got a 20g tank and I am planning on doing a fishless cycle. I went out shopping and managed to find the ammonia in the first shop I went in :good: (I was expecting that to be hard to find). Now all I need is the test kits (nitrite, nitrate and ammonia). I looked around and they all seem really expenisive about £7 each or £25 for full set. Does anyone know of a cheaper version or a website for the uk that sells them cheaper? Thanks

Your most important tests will be for ammonia and nitrate. Ph is very useful to have - and Nitrate is very good to have. gH & kH are nice to have.

Test kits really are very important - especially when starting off and for the first number of months - especially as a newbie fish keeper. I would say it's vital.

It's an investment in your pets and their well beginning - not just a "nice to have" extra.

Don't be tempted to buy the paper strip tests - they are really not accurate and often "bleed". If you're going to spend some money, you might as well spend it on something decent. It doesn't have to be the most expensive on the market, but API (Aquarium Pharmaceuticals) is a very good brand and offers excellent value for money. Especially the master test kit. Shop around and check out eBay deals.

Thanks, I understand how inportant the test is, its just that they cost so much! Any way I ended up ordering the Interpet 1247 Master Liquid Test kit for £15.99 and a couple of £ postage, so thats not soooo bad. Tina
