Well API Master kit arrived today, and I am picking up my tank tomorrow. So I thought I would test my tap water to get a baseline.

The results (I think) I got were:

KH 12
GH 15
PH 7.8-8
Ammonia 0-0.25
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 40-80

(picture attached of the tubes against the comparison chart)

Have I read the results right?
Are these readings normal? (Nitrate seems high very high)

Is there anyone else in Croydon here to compare against?
And how likely is it that I just mucked up and the readings are anomalous?

Hi I live in Morden only a stones throw away and my nitrate is also high from the tap, I use tablet test kit.
I haven't checked it for a while but when I spoke to my LFS they said don't worry it's always like that, our water probably comes from the same supplier as yours Sutton & east surrey water.

Thats good to know, at least I can assume I am doing the tests right. Will repeat it a few times before I start cycling the tank though.

Is anyone aware of a product to remove nitrates from water?

Your fish will be fine with that nitrate reading, no need to pay for something you dont really need matey. all the theres look spot on.

Yes. Large, weekly water changes. Best product on the market :hey:

Lol yea but my concern was there is already a lot of nitrate in my tap water!

I have done a second test today results as follows:

GH 14
KH 14
PH 7.4
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 40

You probably have a high Nitrate level in your water supply.
