Water Temperature

Also having a tank in the conservatory is not the best move, for one it WILL get hot and two it will get lots of algae when the sun comes in....

+1 not a good idea at all. Will not only get extremely hot it'll also fluctuate a lot which is even worse. Can you keep a window open at all times? Maybe an air con unit would be necessary.

If not and you can't move it I would research my fish and make sure I only have fish that naturally live in very hot temperates. I thing betta would be reasonably happy in such high temps.

Just aim a fan at surface to keep the evaporation down..

Ummm, a fan increases the rate of evaporation. So, you get one or the other.

I'd pick the increased evaporation as evaporation cools as it occurs. This is the idea behind sweat. Water takes a certain amount of energy to change from liquid to vapor phase. When it is doing this, it takes energy from its surrounds. Such as the rest of the tank water (tank evaporation), or from your body (sweat), thusly cooling the surroundings.

So, intentionally putting a fan on your tank to increase the evaporation does cool the tank. Just be sure to top off as necessary.
