btw barbus where are you from ?
Jakarta, Indonesia :D ... heavy rain start coming here so hope it'll get more cooler

I'm from Malaysia, but I'm currently staying in Canada doing my degree.

My platy tank is set at 84F (to promote faster growth) and it is full of java moss. I have 3w/g of all-spectrum light on it and java moss grows very well! (same for java fern). I have tonnes of aeration due to amount of fishes in this tank so I am definitely not helping to provide any additional CO2. The plants are keeping nitrate levels to below 5ppm very nicely....

below 5ppm in a 15 gallon tank? Wow!

I just saw the tank's pics on your sig and now I know why. I've never seen java moss to grow so well, looks so healthy! Must be that all spectrum light doin' it's job! :)

This one is a very odd tank - my intention was to create a setup that will continue to produce surviving fry without interfering with adult platies. So far, it is working - I am removing about 30 good sized (1 inch+) fry per month and keeping the total number stable.

I never overfiltered a tank to this extent before - Aqua Clear 200 and two sponge filters, all in a 15g tank...

Yea. I'm very fimiliar with the Aqua Clear Series myself. Helped my roomie set up his 200 as well, and it's doing it's job very well, so I'm thinking of getting one myself.

woaw !!! i just looked at the sig and dang ! thats one big java moss afro ! :D cool :D hmm does that show that its good to overfilter ? :D btw with your bristlenow grow out tank, i saw a zuchini skewer ? im trying to place cocumber into my tank so that my ottos have something else to eat, but the cocumber keeps turning into mush ! hahaha are you experiencing the same problem ?

IMO, you should overfilter as much as you can - as long as the fishes can handle the current, you are not harming them. In this case, even the sponge filters are creating quite a bit of current due to the relatively small dimension of the tank...

As for bristlenose tank - I don't have to worry about them going mushy. They completely finish them within 2 - 3 days. I change the water in that tank every two days (50%), so there's not much I need to syphon out... ;)

ic ic im gonna try to make a fry tank like urs, a moss fro, maybe put the fro on top of a fake head or something and see if it'l look interesting !??! hahhahaahahahh :sly: hmmm
