I have well water which is pretty clear of everything except a few nitrates, no chlorine or chloramine, I was just curious if running cooler water through my tanks sort of like a stream over the top of the water would be an ok Idea, if you know what I am saying, have it run in one side of the tank and have an overflow taking water out the other side? Would that be too much waterchanging for the tank?

I suppose that would work, but You wouldnt be able to control temperatures. Thats about the only downside i can think of. So i guessit depends on your fish and the water temps

Well the thermometer reads pretty accurately so if I sat here and just paid close attention to how warm or cold it was to try and keep it as steady a temp as possible that should work right? I am gettin in to this because today wasnt the warmest day the summer is going to reach and my tanks jumped to 85 degrees, I was rather ticked off that they jumped so high so now i just need to figure how to cool them off :)

If you were confident the temperature would be under control... had fish appropriate to the temperature... and had fish who like to be in moving water... I think you'd end up with an incredibly healthy aquarium.

Well I did some research on my Glass Catfish, and they like a current in the water, but also like a calm spot to rest, so I know they would be happy, just need to do a lil more research on my Bloodfin Glass Tetras :)

What if the tank gets too hot? What is a common way of cooling it down? Replacing water? Right now my setup is away from a window...

Hiya,
If you just want to cool you tank , then perhaps u are makeing it too complicated, why not place a pond net over teh top of your tank ( so the fish don't jump out) and place a fan near by over time you'll find out want setting can really cool down to the level you need. Also id you have a lamp then thats also adding to the heat.

Mo.

if you want to regulate the temperature of the water just get it to fill up a tank with a heater before it actually flows into the tank with the fish.

All three of my tanks arent by any window, lights off in the dark, temps still jumped to 85 on a day where temps outside were 85-90. This is only the beginning of summer in oregon. WE can hit temps of 110+ :-(

Complicated, maybe, but also looking for something that fish will like more opposed to bottles with ice :D

That Idea did run through my head and I am thinking of a good way to do that now :D.

Thank you for all the help guys :-D
