i have added my 1st water stats to my journal if someone would check these out for me i would appreciate it

well 16 views and no replies  so i thought i would add the test results here......

temp:25
sg: 1.024 (d+d refractometer)
ph: 7.7  (tetratest) is this too low. only added my sand a few days ago so may not have buffered the water yet
amm: <0.25ppm (salifert)
phos: 0.03ppm (salifert)
nitrate 5.00ppm (salifert)
nitrite 0.10ppm (salifert)

i've never used the salifert tests before but am sure i have been pretty accurate. i followed the instructions to the letter.
so how are my stats so far?
what else should i be testing and whats my next step cheers............ kevin

Hi mate only issues IMO are the nitrite, phos and ph.

Nitrite should be zero (unless your going through cycle)
Phos (0.03 ain't too bad but I like to see zero when I test mine)
Ph (could do with buffering to 8.0-8.3ish. Live sand and surface agitation should take care of that)

SG is fine but I personally like 1.025 but that's just me being a perfectionist! Lol

If your going through a cycle then don't worry about any of the readings as they will all fluctuate throughout the cycle. Especially your ph.

whats my next step? how often should i be testing the stats etc.........it's getting scary now  having a tank full of rock was nice and simple

Haha
Well I would say test every day or so. You want to see some 0's for a week I think before adding CUC.
I didn't have any cycle so Im not too clued up!

i dont even know if i am or not, rocks been in there couple of months now........ come back trops ....all is forgiven

So what prompted starting to test? Just because you had the kits? lol.
What was last thing that was changed with the tank, as Ive been away and not caught up yet!

i was always going to test the water at some stage just hadn't got round to buying the tests as wasnt sure about which ones to go with, latest change to the tank was adding the sand on sunday just gone, also once the holiday is gone i want to start thinking about some stock. so i got the salifert tests. i hate cycling, i'm no scientist, give me a hammer any day of the week

Ah ok. So its sand and LR ans saltwater. Personally if you aren't able to do anything anyway until you get back I wouldn't waste the tests on it. By then any cycle should be done. Test when your back, water change and then CUC :D

Im gunna get told off by the allknowings now :D

A small water change about 20% and then test again after a few days.
