Hi I got a 450 litre tank and I only got a few fish in, 2 plecos, 2 eastern euro rams, 2 kuhli lochs and a couple of corys. A plant just came out of position and I put it back in and the water seemed rather cold, ive got a digital thermometer in and it says the water is 24.8C but it seems really cold but the fish seem active still apart from the plecos who are hiding in the caves I made.

Is it normal for it to feel cold (ive had smaller tank before and the water always seemed warmish) in a bigger tank maybee, i also have my heater set to 30 so could something be wrong.

My tank always feels cold but its at 24 degrees all the time, so maybe its jst something you get used to.

heat will take a while to heat that amount of water. also if the room is warmer than 24c then the water will naturally feel cold :good:

The room is colder and its been on for nearly a week now, it was warm to begin with, im wondering weather the heater is broken but the light still comes on as if its working, i turned it up full to 34c about 2 hours ago and I am monitoring it and the thermometer still reads 24.9, i know its a vast amount of water so I will be patient but if the tempreture doesnt change should I be concerned.

The water won't feel warm- I thought the same thing when I started, but since turning the heater down to 24 ish, the fish are much healthier and happier. Although it's 'tropical', don't think it'll be at a temperature associated with indoor swimming pools :p

hi
i think maybe that because our body temperature
is higher than the tank water is,that is why your
water will feel cooler,perhaps.

the heaters in both my tanks are the same brand, though different wattages (visitherm). they are set to the same temperature on the thermostat (78F) and both thermometers read 80F, but the water is warmer in the 10g than the 20g for some reason.

If the same thermometer reads the same temperature in both tanks they are the same temperature.

Here's a little sensory trick with water temperature; Get two large bowls, big enough to fit your hand into. Set these up near your tank. Fill one with hot water, as hot as you can stand to put you hand into without burning yourself. Fill the other with cold water. Put your left hand in one, your right hand in the other, and wait a few minutes. Remove your hands, and put them in the tank.

Is the tank warm or cold?
