I've done a quick search for the answer to this but cant find anything related, maybe it's obvious but I just want to be sure,,,, can I use the old water after a water change on my plants (tomato, some flowers etc) in the garden?

I'm on a water meter and seems a waste to throw away and then use tap water. I use King British treatment for both new water and once a week for treatment, would this have any effect?

Thanks

I've always chucked mine on the flower bed. It's keeps my nan happy cause that way I can tell her I'm fertilising the plants in the process of using more water. :)

I don't think it can do any harm. It might fertilize it a bit extra maybe XD. Just watch out if you throw water over your veggies if you used medication, maybe you might want to flush it down the toilet then. But I'm not sure if water treatment stuff would have any effect. Maybe to be safe only throw it over flowers and plants you don't eat :D.

I would agree with this opinion. I don't know if it would really do any harm per se if you dumped it on vegetable plants but with the chemicals we use for our fish, manufacturers state that they shouldn't be used for consumption. Not that any of use would do that, but I'm just thinking about people raising lobsters and shrimps (the edible varieties) and using the chemicals we do. I would just take a precaution and dump it over a flower bed instead.

The water in the bucket you rinse your filters out in is especially rich in organic matter. It's excellent fertilizer for houseplants.

Thanks all, I don't put water directly on tomato plant, just at the bed, I feel it will be ok, sort of agree it will have fertilizer effect more than anything, will keep you posted :good:

I recycle my used fish water in the flower beds in front of my house as well as replenishing the water lost due to evaporation in the water fountain in front of my house. Rarely do I flush the water down the toilet.

If you didn't use it in the garden why would you flush it anyway instead of just pouring it down the sink? The toilet takes more water to get rid of water...

Agreed I wouldn't risk it on things for direct consumption, might be OK but not worth the risk.

There was a thread on here, or another fish forum, where someone's dog had drank tank water I think and it caused them to be quite ill.

i always keep some dirty water spare to feed my houseplants with, they LURVE it :* :* :* (and my mam is jealous 'cos my plants look far better than hers! - my secret? FISH POO!)
