Ehhhh. I wouldn't spend my money on it, tbh.
 
Gimick. Its just a carbon block. Yes it will make the water look clean just like carbon does in your filter. You know - that stuff we all take out of the filters we buy and throw away because it serves no valid purpose
I don't use carbon except for that one time when family members complain about the smell coming from one of my tanks.
 
Activated carbon is GREAT for removing impurities from water...nearly ALL tap water filters use carbon. The trouble is that it is short lived in the aquarium so using it regularly would be a bit expensive. ALSO, if you have plants, the activated carbon would remove nutrients that the plants need!
Oh well...I'm poor and have plants so no carbon for me! <grins>
 
I only use the carbon filter when I want to remove medications from the tank. I have a box full of unused carbon filters new in the bag that I collected over the years. Add more sponge filters and replace your carbon filters they are a waste of money.
